Viral video shows a shark beaching itself on an Australian beach, and now we're finding out why. Scientists say the shark swallowed an adult sea lion and it got stuck in the shark's throat.
Viral video making the rounds on the Internet shows the shark swimming close to the shoreline of a western Australian beach. The video was captured July 12. An updated post two days later said the shark's carcass had washed up on the beach.
In the video the great white shark can be seen very close to the shore. Scientists say it then swam about 50 meters out, and repeated the pattern.
After reviewing the video and the carcass, researches say the adult male shark "had no visible signs of injury or disease but appeared to have a large Australian sea lion stuck in its throat." They say the shark's behavior before his death could have been him trying to get the sea lion out.
Tech website Mashable reports that scientists say the sea lion could have caused damage to the shark's internal organs or stopped the water flow to his gill. Another possibility is that the shark may have stranded itself trying to remove the sea lion.
Obviously his mother didn’t show him how to chew his food properly.
And his mother didn’t know about the Heimlich maneuver either.
Didn’t do the Sea Lion much good either.
Bit off more than he could chew (or swallow).
If I had a nickle for every time.....
See. Michelle was right. You should never super size your meal.
LMAO...nicely done!
Plus, you are supposed to wait an hour after eating before you swim..
Food Lion does returns for refunds.
This may have been a sea lion eating contest gone horribly wrong. When you go up against Joey Chestnut you had better bring your “A” game.
Isn’t gluttony one of the seven deadly sins?
It was just McChomp the Shark taking a bite out of crime in the 7 seas, but he bit off more than he could chew!
It would have been different had the Japanese Imperial Navy had assisted the German invasion of England rather than attack Pearl Harbor. Course it didn’t happen that way but it could have.
