Farmville family stunned that officer fatally shot Golden Retriever

PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. — A Farmville family is searching for answers after a Prince Edward Deputy shot their eight-year-old Golden Retriever, named Party, ultimately killing him.

“The dog was at the same level of the officer when he fired,” said homeowner Stephen Carwile, and indicated that the deputy was standing at the bottom of the deck.

The incident happened June 27 while the family wasn’t home. A deputy was serving Carwile a civil warrant when he said he felt threatened by the dog.

“I come home to blood all over the place all over my porch,” said Carwile. He called the sheriff’s office after he couldn’t find Party, then saw his blood stained deck and the warrant.

“The lieutenant called me and stated that my dog had tried to attack the officer and the officer had shot my dog.”

The Prince Edward Sheriff’s office put out the following press release:

On June 27, 2014 a Prince Edward County Deputy was charged by a vicious dog at a residence while he was attempting civil paper service. The Deputy tried to get away from the dog but the animal lunged at him so he fired his weapon as required by training. Animal Control was notified seeking medical assistance for the dog, but the animal later died.

The sheriff’s department said the incident was investigated by the Virginia State Police, however a state police spokeswoman said that was not the case.

“The resident did speak with Sgt. King, who explained that the Virginia State Police cannot investigate an incident involving another law enforcement agency without that agency’s formal request, or the request of the Attorney General, commonwealth’s attorney, or grand jury,” said state police. “You will need to contact the sheriff’s office for details concerning the incident.”

Party’s owner, Carwile’s 14-year-old stepson Prescott Stewart, said that’s not the dog he knew, and he can’t imagine the dog lunging at anyone.

“It’s like a void that has been put inside of me I can’t describe it; he was just that kind of dog that if he could be human, he could be my brother — it’s just hard,” Stewart said.

A necropsy shows Party was shot twice, and died of blood loss.

“Anything after the first shot the dog was disabled, the second shot he was just shooting to be cruel,” said Carwile.

The Carwiles said Party suffered on their deck for more than an hour before before he died in the care of the dog warden.

“I know he suffered, he was trying to get in the house,” he said. “He wanted one of us to open that door and let him him so he could be saved.”

“I still have bullet holes in my house, blood on my porch and bullet casings laying in my yard that I have to look at everyday and it just keeps going through my mind without anybody doing anything about this,” he added.

The Carwiles plan to file a civil suit. They want this case investigated and the deputy who killed their dog terminated.

“I want to see him loose his job and never tow a firearm again,” said Carwile.

“I just hope he thinks about it and realizes he did wrong,” said Stewart.

"Do you support these nearly daily reports regarding cops shooting pets, many on their own properties, cops using military war vehicles and using tactics one would expect during brutal war time conditions?"

Do you support Bill Ayers and blowing up the Pentagon and killing babies and having a nuclear warhead go off inside your barber shop? Do you have any other stupid questions?

I go to people’s homes every day as part of my job.

Almost without exception, I am leaped upon by the family dog as the front door is opened.

I have never had to pull my weapon on any of them.

Ever.

Your utterly meaningless question combines a whole lot of ridiculous options that are akin to, “Do you still beat your wife?” Just a yes or no will do, sir. Now, your turn, Just a yes or no will do, sir.

it is their nature to protect their property from unknown invaders, that’s why we have them.

I think you may have swerved into the root of the cop dog shooting epidemic.

"Protect our property from invaders" - the government and its agents don't like this concept. For one thing, in their worldview, you should not be claiming anything as "your property".
Secondly, it is inherent in the "progressive" worldview that you have no right to defend yourself from the government or its agents - you are to SUBMIT.

Now, I think we're getting closer to the "why" of all the dog shootings.

I noticed something this Independence Day.
Last year, the local police had their TANK in the parade.
I actually shouted at them “YOU DON’T NEED THAT FOR POLICE WORK”.
I think enough citizens complained. They didn’t show off their toy this year.

Still answering questions with questions I see.

How weak weak is that?

Based on your evasive responses, it seems clear where your support lies.

Farmville is an actual place? Is it just up the road from Bingo Blitz, North Carolina?

It's a few miles south of Candy Crush.

No, it's not an actual place, no one lives there, and the story is just fiction... We all know everyone lives in big cities like Chicago and Boston~

You may be right about me; I never was to good at that whole “SUBMIT” thing, other than to GOD.
I find that the older I get the less submission I have in my heart or soul, so be it.
If you look at my tag line you should get a pretty good idea of what I would like to do with Prog/Lib/Dems.

I really think we’ve stumbled on the root of the issue here.

Government agents believe that you shouldn’t be able to exclude them from “your” property, nor should you be able to defend yourself from the gov’t or its agents.

Dogs inherently defend their property from invaders.
This makes them natural enemies of any gov’t agent.

Good G_d man, if you had a brain it would be lonely.

The cop came up to serve a paper warrant. That means he could leave it in the mailbox WITHOUT TRESPASSING, FWIW.

He came on the property and KILLED the dog, putting TWO slugs into it AT CHEST LEVEL, while the dog was on the deck.

If the dog was ANY danger to him, why did it stay on the deck?

Have you EVER in your life seen an “vicious” Golden retriever? Have you even HEARD of one?

Or do you consider “officer friendly” always innocent, and without blemish?

I, once upon a time, considered the police our allies.

THEY have become our legal persecutors, through their own actions and attitude.

When YOU drive down the street and a cop ends up following you , do you feel “protected”, or do you start thinking “What could I be doing wrong?”

He should be terminated.

Bastard.

The problem here is THE POLICE ACADEMIES!!!! They TEACH these NAZIs this stuff!!!! If you see a dog, kill it!

When are we going to WAKE UP and DEMAND civilian observers at ALL Police “academy” classes!!

God knows what ELSE they are teaching these paramilitary wannabe thugs.

"Based on your evasive responses, it seems clear where your support lies."

Okay, let's play this out, my FRiend.

"Do I support these nearly daily reports regarding cops shooting pets?"

How in the world would I "support" this? Do you mean do I believe that they are coming out daily? Do you mean do I like it? Do you mean am I paying someone to publish these daily? What exactly does this silly question mean?

And, because you strung the unrelated components of this run-on question together I can only assume that you mean to continue to ask...

"(Do I support) cops using military war vehicles?"

Of course I do. So do you. If a maniac is standing outside of a bank and has just killed the guard and four customers, I certainly support SWAT showing up in an armored vehicle or a tank or a fricking aircraft carrier if they want. I wouldn't imagine that you would prefer them showing up in Yugo, would you? The deputy in question was trying to serve papers on the homeowner. Have you ever done that? Don't tell us how brave you are and hide in your living room with Oprah.

And, I must assume you go on to mean...

"(Do I support) them using tactics one would expect during brutal war time conditions?"

Absolutely. Actually, here in AZ we are at war with La Raza and the invasion of illegals taking back the SW United States. I would certainly appreciate the use of military tactics to stem the tide of illegals, using any kind of tactics necessary to preserve the country. Perhaps you want 40,000,000 new Democrats in your town...we conservative patriots do not.

"Good G_d man, if you had a brain it would be lonely."

Well folks, line up to view Don W...he has two brains. Everyone else in the world has one, but Don W's is not "lonely" like ours...must be another in that swollen head of his.

And, yes, I have seen a vicious golden retriever. A relative used to raise them, but they got too hard to handle.

And, maybe you and your pair of brains have done something wrong if you are afraid of the cops...would you like to confess something?

Nothing is quite so terrifying as an 8 yo Golden Retriever that lunges at you. The snarling teeth, the soul shattering growl, saliva flying everywhere. No doubt we would all fear for our lives...

The training that is provided these perps needs to be reviewed. The shoot first, apologize later policy must be stopped. This dog slept inside the house with a 14 yo boy. There is no way he lunged at anyone. There has to be an office pool back at the precinct to see who can get to 10 kills first...
