Three unsung heroes at a Lowes Home Improvements store fixed a Vietnam veterans broken-down wheelchair, which was much more than his local Veterans Affairs office was willing to do.
He wrote this letter to his local newspaper, the Staten Island Advance, to give thanks to the men and the company that went to bat for him, when the government wouldnt.
In 1971, I stepped on a land mine in Vietnam and lost both legs above the knee.
For the past two years, I have been waiting to receive a new wheelchair from the Veterans Administration. In addition, I have been told that I am not entitled to a spare wheelchair.
On the evening of July 7, my wheelchair fell apart again, while shopping at Lowes Home Improvement Center in on Forest Avenue in Mariners Harbor.
Three employees, David, Marcus and Souleyman jumped to my assistance immediately. They placed me in another chair while they went to work. They took the wheelchair apart and replaced the broken parts and told me, Were going to make this chair like new.

Zero addresses other nagging issues with Executive Orders. Why not this one which would make America proud?
Your posts were old a long time ago.
OK. Lowe’s did a great thing.
Home Depot is too busy sponsoring gay pride parades with children as grand marshals.
Government (especially federal) is so inept and incompetence they same VA sent a very nice and fancy walker but we asked for a wheelchair since dying of bone cancer doesn’t let you walk.
After dad passed I called the and said “come pick it up, it’s new and we never used it (hospice did the wheelchair and took it back afterwards) and they said, “no, just keep it”.
That thing cost hundreds of dollars.
It’s completely and utterly out of control and I want a president that will fire the hell out of these people and then quit paying them for life.
Disability rating is complicated unless you are 100%. Limb loss is usually 100%. You go to the head of the line.

Lowe’s Wheelchair Improvement Stores...(Not a division of The VA).
There is no damned way these “kids” are traveling for two weeks to get here. They’d be skin and bones. I believe they’re being bussed to within a few miles of the border and we are paying for it. I’ve seen news reports about the “beast” train but I haven’t see a reporter travel with one of them for the whole trip.
You can be sure that wheelchair was bought and paid at least 100 times over. But the VA can’t muster the effort to get it to that veteran.
It’s a volcano...
and the libs still believe fedgov is awesome and will care the best for you, and big companies are heartless. God bless these guys, all of them.
Which organization is better suited to provide efficient service to veterans — the VA or Lowe’s. If you said the VA, you are wrong. The VA couldn’t find their butts, with both hands, a cheat sheet, and a GPS.
Your defense of the indefensible is as wrong, FRiend,
as your defense of the EXEMPT Congress, which is laughable.
The solution is to put DOCS in charge of the VA.
If you watched/listened to/attended the hearing on
Whistleblowing last week, you would have understood.
An ACTIVE volcano.
“FR is getting too low-IQ for me.”
FR is or Obama’s America?
Really? I can't get enough of them. But one post trying to tear down a FReeper for doing what FReepers are supposed to do, is two posts too many for me.
I would appreciate it if everyone tried to remain on topic.
Constant repetition of memes like “exempt Congress” do not add to the debate at all.
Our job at hand is to make Congress more Conservative by going after the liberals who we can beat this year.
