I would be more likely to be reading a book than be on my cell. Same difference. I also tend to not frequent pizza places where there is significant need to watch the door for entering robbers.

I take a book also if I am going to be waiting for a while, but it is not the same at least for me, I am still alert.
I can only name 2 places where I have not heard of a robbery or some other crime being committed while they are doing business. One is a gun store and the second is a funeral home. If you know of others I would be glad to add them to my list of places I should feel safe in.
