After comparing the videos, they found that cell phones have become a large distraction for customers which are preventing them from ordering as efficiently as they once did.

Nowadays customers are too per-occupied with taking photos upon entering, telling the waiters they are having problems connecting to the WiFi, taking photos of their food once it’s delivered to them and bumping into other customers and waiters as they enter and exit the restaurant as a result of texting while walking. Anonymous restaurateur reviewed surveillance videos from 2004 and 2014 to discover why service has got so much slower

A manager at a ‘busy NYC restaurant’ claims that customers constantly using their cell phones are to blame for a dramatic increase in the amount of time it takes to be served in restaurants nowadays.

In an anonymous post on the Craigslist 'rants & raves' board, the restaurateur claims to have reviewed surveillance videos from 2004 and 2014 and found a staggering difference in the averagtime it takes to service a customer.

Following their research, the poster found that the average time that a customer spent in the restaurant from start to finish in 2004 was 1 hour and 5 minutes, while in 2014 the average time was 1 hour and 55 minutes. Agreed. Once went to pick up a pizza I had ordered. There were four other people waiting all four were texting or playing some kind of game. No one looked up when I came in, didn’t look up till their name was called. Felt like a nightmarish sci-fi movie, normal looking people taken over by a small machine. Cell phones should be outlawed.

What do you want them to do while they wait for their pizza? Glare at you?

I tend to call in my pizza order and time my arrival for when it's likely to be ready.

‘It’s pretty disgusting.’

Yes, I was referring to the zombies.

I also time my arrival but it wasn’t ready.

Don’t care what they do but it would be wise to look up and notice who or what is walking in the door. My point was these people are in another world. Zoned out, not home, sitting ducks for anyone with evil on their mind.

I have answered this question before and I expect that since I still get the same question I must have hit a nerve with some of you, I guess you must be one of the zombies I am referring to. Anyone in this world today who focuses their attention on a child’s game or some trivial communication on a small telephone, and notices nothing of what goes on around them, is an idiot.

I would be more likely to be reading a book than be on my cell. Same difference. I also tend to not frequent pizza places where there is significant need to watch the door for entering robbers.

‘Do you own one?’

When I was in business and often away for short periods and my employees had to get in touch with me, I owned one as a tool not a toy, it must have weighed 3 pounds. If I had to use it I pulled off the road or called people back when free. After I retired and was working our farm, I owned another one in case I broke down or the tractor turned over on me, again as a tool not a toy.

I got rid of it when we sold the farm and I go longer needed it. There is little reason for me to constantly stay in touch with anyone, I never learned to text or play games on it. It is a tool not a toy. I am not a rude person, or a drug dealer, and do not wish to cause harm while driving to someone because of my childish fixation of what is now entertainment for the retarded or those who want to appear important.

‘Nah, it was funny ;)’

It defused the situation and I turned it into laughter instead of anger, which was where it was. I hate to say it but we are devolving instead of evolving into something better. It seems that each generation must learn the same hard lessons over and over. Manners and common courtesy are lost arts to many people. That is a shame. Glad you thought it was funny.

“Sorry, it is more than just cell phones. How about poorly trained wait staff?”

Agree, sounds like an excuse. Everyone wants to blame “selfish” people on cell phones. I see people using their smartphones all the time everywhere. I don’t recall however every being delayed in a line by someone using a phone. They want to move quickly even when on the phone.

‘Well “I” felt it was rude of him to just assume I’m one of those people who do it often, an take it personally. I remember sitting in a doctor’s office with 5 other people and all of them had their noses buried in their phones. I miss the days when you could actually strike up a little conversation with someone’

At that moment you were one of those people and you were also rude.

I had the same experience at my bone doc’s office, must have been a dozen people playing with their phones and one person reading. I also had a book with me for those types of visits, but I am never unconscious of what goes on around me. Why are people surprised that we are losing our country when they might as well be asleep?

‘Most of the time even if I;m on the train (just like most people who ride it) I have it on MP3 mode so I;m listening to music but I can visually scan my surroundings and still be alert.’

You get it and you are wise to be alert. Many evil people walk among us and being their victim should not happen thru inattention.

‘It’s a strange kind of need for constant entertainment, I just don’t get it. No one can seem to just sit quietly and think anymore.’

You are right and our lack of reflection is destroying us. Almost seems planned.....on second thought, maybe it was.

I take a book also if I am going to be waiting for a while, but it is not the same at least for me, I am still alert.

I can only name 2 places where I have not heard of a robbery or some other crime being committed while they are doing business. One is a gun store and the second is a funeral home. If you know of others I would be glad to add them to my list of places I should feel safe in.

“Damned tractors! :)”

I do get somewhat far afield when commenting sometimes. Only had to use the cell once when my wife faced off with a 500# heifer and of course the heifer won. Enjoyed farming hated shipping the cattle, never name your cattle or bottle raise the things. It depressed me for days afterwards.:(
