Latino population, wealth expected to rise in U.S.

It is unfortunate, but perhaps predictable, that Latinos in the United States are targeted and being scapegoated in the political uproar over immigration.

First of all, their numbers are growing at a phenomenal rate. According to a Pew Research Hispanic Trends Project, the Latino population in the United States since 1970 has grown sixfold, rising from 9.1 million to 53 million by 2012.

At 17 percent of the U.S. population now, Hispanics surpass African Americans as the country’s largest minority group. Generally when a minority group’s numbers hit and surpass the 10 percent threshold, the majority in the U.S. becomes very anxious, agitated and nervous.

It’s at that point when bias, bigotry, racism, discrimination, prejudice and scapegoating occur so frequently that it’s impossible to ignore or dismiss.

The Great Recession hurt U.S. Hispanic families. The decline in median wealth sustained by the entire population was 39 percent between 2007 and 2010. For Latino families it was 32 percent.

The drop also contributed to a fall off in Latino immigration into the United States by 2010, the Pew study noted. But the wealth growth among Hispanics will be triggered partly by the faster native-born population growth and a faster growth in average household wealth, the Federal Reserve Bank study notes.

Wealth? What wealth? That all goes back to their home countries via Western Union.

First of all, their numbers are growing at a phenomenal rate.

Any time you allow them to invade your country from Mexico, Central and South America at a "phenomenal" rate, their numbers will grow "phenomenally". It's not rocket science. Just simple math. I don't know why Barry's toads in his state controlled "media" are so dumbfounded by this.

I have to say I find grim humor in this.

Could explain why the AAs seem to be getting pretty fired up about the invasion on the border.

That's what happens during an invasion.

They act as if it's a badge of honor.

Actually it shows the utter failure of their countries and culture.

They had to leave to escape...themselves.

Why would we want that to become our country?

I so hate these people. No one is clamoring about legal and American born Latinos. IT’S THE FRICKIN’ BORDER. It’s the frickin’ high speed train from Guatemala that Mexico is running. It’s paying our tax dollars to welcome and care for children who are being used.

This is such typical leftist drivel designed to shut down debate. Just like everything opposed to anything is sexist, racist, homophobic, or islamophobic. What happened to the “no label” crowd.

I have nothing against Blacks or Latinos. I hate Democrats, period. 5% of Blacks and 30% of Latinos are just fine.

this is not a US phenomenon, it happens in every country throughout history. Once 10 percent is achieved, the culture starts to degrade.

One of the responses to this 'latino' invasion could be to put a moratorium on immigration numbers from all latino countries for the next 10 years. Allow those who from European countries who have been applying legally from their own countries, and who have been shoved aside by the forceable invasion of Latinos, to take future Latino slots in our immigration quota system as 'reparations' for being cheated out of their slots (lol). Ethnic imbalance solved.

Generally? When has this ever happened before in American history, for what identifiable minority group?

The "Yellow Peril" never got to 10%. Opposition had nothing to do with numbers, but to culture. Likewise, opposition to the invaders from Latin America has nothing to do with numbers, but with the fact they refuse to adopt the culture of the country to which they're coming.
