A Whole Bunch Of People On Facebook Thought Steven Spielberg Killed A Real Dinosaur
Buzzfeed ^ | 07/11/2014 | Luke Lewis

Fact check: The triceratops became extinct 66 million years ago. The director of Jurassic Park has never shot one for sport.

Internet humourist Jay Branscomb posted it on Facebook with the caption: “Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man.”

A lot of people didn’t get the joke, and thought Spielberg really had shot a dinosaur.

This person called him an “inhumane prick”...

“Steven Spielberg, I’m disappointed in you. I’m not watching any of your movies again ANIMAL KILLER.”

“Disgraceful. No wonder dinosaurs became extinct. Sickos like this kill every last one of them as soon as they are discovered. He should be in prison.”

“He should be killed instead. Beautiful creature innocently living millions of years ago then this monster comes along.”

Actually, to use the word “work” in any of it’s various connotations when referring to this WH is an oxymoron.

Nobody in this White House “works”, at least not in the conventional sense and none of the actions the White House takes or policies it pursues “works” , at least not in the conventional sense

I consider the Komodo Dragon close to being a living dinosaur.

He sure looks like one.

Anatomically though, would birds be the closest?

Some of the posters are no doubt just being smart-asses. The rest, well...humanity as a group is terrifyingly stupid - especially many of the “educated” ones. How many Leftists have been elected with calls to “Save Our Schools” or to stop the “War on Women” based on little more factual information than a photo of a dead triceratops? :)

Birds are descended from dinosaurs. Some people would say that birds are dinosaurs, and that only the "non-avian dinosaurs" are extinct.

Some of the people bashing Spielberg probably ate a dinosaur last November for Thanksgiving.

Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh, who have FB pages and use it regularly, may not agree with you. There are millions of FB users. Just like on Free Republic, there are some very bright people, and there are some who aren’t so bright. In fact, Freerepublic has a FB page, which comes in handy when FR goes down. Many FR users use this option.

No doubt your examples are referring to professional PR operations. Not the dufus who give up their privacy and the privacy of non consenting others to make pretend personal relationships.

Facebook has a high powered facial recognition engine that builds relationships based photographs. I may be in a few peoples photographs and be flagged without granting consent in any way. 98% of facebook users are probably oblivious to what is being done with their information, but they feel good because they can belong.

I stand by my comment.

OK I’ll play (but may regret it). How is social networking socialist?

It’s a dig, an insult.

The sites can be used in many ways. However, they serve to propagate misinformation more readily than fact.

Plenty of fake news items about “evil republicans” are shared on facebook, twitter, and elsewhere.

Most people are sharing the headlines and not even reading the “news”.

Some of them are from “parody” sites but the low information users there are eating it up.

Example when Wendy Davis huffed and puffed for half a day in the Texas Senate, an article went out that Republicans still managed to pass a bill restricting masturbation.

“OOOOH THOSE EVIL REPUBLICANS!” who cares if it’s even true.

They share the 2-minutes of hate directed at the approved targets. Then they return to bitching about their day and showing pictures of their lunch.

Facebook now even shows you which “topics” are trending so you can join in the pecking party.

That’s more a function of modern media than anything about the nature of social networking. Information just gets around faster these days.

"Beautiful creature innocently living millions of years ago then this monster comes along.”

I'm going to guess this one was writing toungue-in-cheek, as were most who played along with the gag.
