If two of the most progressive U.S. cities dont pass a tax on sugary drinks, will the idea finally fizzle out?
Sugary drinks have been under fire for years, with many blaming them for rising rates of obesity and chronic diseases. Yet efforts to curb consumption by imposing taxes and other measures have failed, in part because the beverage industry has spent millions to defeat the efforts.
Now, the question of whether a bottle of Dr. Pepper with 64 grams of sugar should be treated like a pack of cigarettes is being considered in San Francisco and Berkeley, with the two California cities aiming to become the countrys first to pass per-ounce taxes on sugary drinks.

Do you see how this works? These liberal hellhole like San Francisco and Yew York just can’t stop looking for something to take away from you. The ruling class always know what is best for you.
. . .knowing the way California thinks, this will lead to Soda Checkpoints and Inspections at selected municipal borders.
Cal Agriculture already claims the right to search your vehicle and possessions for fruit and “insect infestation”. . .
That’s giving them too much credit for being well-intentioned but wrong. It’s more about money than anything. They know well that it won’t stop obesity but it’s just another fabricated crisis for them, like the cigarette tax. They exposed their hand by trying to ban e-cigarettes, which have been proven to help stop smoking, realizing the a drop in the smoking population was a drop in tax revenue.
Same reason why they want to raise the gas tax, after forcing carmakers to make more fuel-efficient and hybrid/electric cars...
Next thing you know, they will tax Starbucks!!!
The soda companies should announce they will stop selling their product in those cities. Then the city won’t get any tax revenue at all from it.
