Total strangers meet at the altar and marry at ‘first sight’
New York Post ^ | July 8, 2014

Carrion is one of six singles who agreed to legally marry a stranger for the new show “Married at First Sight,” premiering Tuesday at 9 p.m. on FYI (formerly Bio).

The extreme social experiment uses four experts — a sexologist, spiritualist, psychologist and sociologist — to create three perfect couples based on scientific matchmaking.

I didn’t read the article but I’m willing to bet they’ll be, “matchmaking” a gay couple before you can hit your remote.

It's more dangerous than that.

“We have the opportunity to match people with a person who complements them, as well as is similar in important ways,” said Dr. Pepper Schwartz, professor of sociology at the University of Washington and an expert on the show. “And, perhaps, end the kind of mistakes they might make themselves based heavily on attraction or a misperceived need for a certain kind of person that is really not good for them.”

Of course, the sociologists know who will be your ideal mate, citizen...

Why would someone be named after rotting meat?

The six singles on “Married at First Sight” (based on a Danish series of the same name)

Another copycat series ... and yet, people in the entertainment industry call themselves "creative."

Right, but they are attempts to influence people. I guess after spending decades tearing marriage down, the Ministry of Propaganda is under pressure from women activists to try to steer more men towards the altar (more likely town hall). A friend who is getting married later this year was concerned about the availability of the church; the Pastor told her she had no reason to worry, since they had almost no weddings scheduled.

Now that we’re reduced to luring little brown children across our border to populate our classrooms, I guess our overlords realize something must be done internally about this.

I once had a co-worker in the military named Cruz-Carrion....Cross-meat? He was Puerto Rican and the name as he told it is not uncommon there.

A lot of people have chosen worse criteria. If they are serious and play for keeps, I wish them all the best.

It wasn’t that long ago that many were married in this way with the parents playing the part of the sociologist. This was good and bad: Good because the parents had a deep bond with the children and had a vested interest in the children’s long-term happiness, bad because the prospective spouse’s finances and other things that affected the parents’ own long term well-being could tend to play an outsized role.

I agree, even today a lot of Indian marriages are based on this. I mean there is some interaction, but mostly the parents want to make sure your not some loser, that you have a job , good family history etc...
like you said good and bad.

My great grandfather was my great grandmother’s second husband after the first on ran off during the depression. The second marriage was a marriage of convenience.

My great grandmother was struggling to keep her farm and Granddad number two was able to save her farm and combine it with his. They went on to have 2 more children and spent the rest of their lives together.

Until the success of marriage (divorce) rate exceeds 50%, this may not be a bad proposition.

How many marriages are based on immaturity, lust, need, a fleeting feeling of “being in love”, and many more things?

The reality is you NEVER really know someone until you’ve been married to them. And often there is shock at finding out what your spouse is really like.

The big downer here is that these marriages are being entered into lightly, with divorce as an accepted option down the road. So the whole concept of marriage that is being promoted here is faulty at the core. That, more than anything, will doom many of these marriages.

Marriage is a life-time commitment, life-time covenant - or it is nothing.

Couldn’t he have just bought her a few drinks and snuck out the next morning? Sucker....now she gets half of everything...

Now seriously, exploring the dynamics of a relationship with no escape mechanism is a recipe for disaster. Especially given the maturity level of today’s “yoot”.

Walking downstairs to the ballroom where he was to say his vows, Carrion was all nerves.

The headline mentions an altar. Do hotel ballrooms now have altars?

Carrion? Someone named a baby “carrion”?! Well, someone named after decaying animal flesh is, I suppose, an apt choice to participate in so-called entertainment like this that is emblematic of the moral decay we have reached.
