Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

Cool! Seems like something that could be done by the boys who have the Metalworking merit badge.

Good kitteh this morning!
How does your mouth feel?

I woke up in the middle of the night and realized what a mess I have in here, and Ordinary Mary is supposed to be here tomorrow. I will have to do a lot of cleaning and organizing before she can clean and organize.

Maybe if I hang all the winter outerwear in the closet in the bedroom, I can use the coat closet for storage which will free up some space and not look so ugly.

There are three containers of varying sizes that hold just junk...so do I keep it, donate it or toss it? Usable junk. I feel like I’ve just moved in again!

HELP!!!

I have a similar problem. Every horizontal surface contains stuff. So how do I find a clear space to move stuff to, so that I can organize the other stuff?

I know! I’ll turn out the light, and go to work instead.

Escapism. No wonder you write books.

I don't have that problem, because I don't have an Ordinary Mary.

I plan to Clean and Organize next week while most of the Impedimenta are gone.

And my teeth feel better, though not pain-free.

Needless to say, I’m doing this because it has to be done, but the longest I can work at any one time is about 40 minutes, and that’s after taking ibuprofen. And sometimes, that wears me out to the point that only one task gets completed.

Then I have to sit and try to do something “quiet.” Now, of course, I have things to sort through and sift, but every little bit is one step closer to a better living space for me. I’m anxious to “GET there” but I have to do what I can do when I can do it.

In a bit, when the pain killer goes to work, I’ll sort through some cassette tapes and try to organize the small book case. There is room for a dozen more books, so I don’t want to waste the space.

;o]

I don’t envy you your mouth, but at least the pain is more manageable today. *hug*

Me and my bright ideas about storage...

My old CD player on the counter played cassette tapes, but it stopped playing CDs, so I got a new one. The new one doesn’t play cassette tapes!

I just gave my TEAC stereo, CD player, cassette player/recorder and record player to Busdaddy. I like to listen to music, but almost every day, and often at night, even when the thing wasn’t on, it would pick up the traffic from CBers and it was filthy.

The only remedy was to unhook the speakers, as just having it plugged in was enough of an antenna to get the garbage.

And I was so proud of that thing.

I took Sally over to her friend’s house; she’s going to stay a couple of days, because the friend is moving next week.

Then I ordered cakes for the Missionaries of the Poor on Saturday. I was able to do it by phone from Sam’s, very convenient. We have a schedule conflict, but someone else from the church can take them.

This has been a surprising day for me, but it’s been productive. I got the cassettes, CD-ROMs and a few other things all sorted and place into crates, then hung up my winter gear in the bedroom. I think there are two tubs still outside (one with dress shoes!) that need to be sorted and then I just need to work on the little stuff in here.

It seemed overwhelming when I woke up this morning, but I managed to get through it. Now, I really want to go lie down, but this is the week the Powers want to get the serial numbers off the appliances, and I figure the minute I lie down, they will come. My kitchen looks ugly because I had to take the pans out of the stove and the cookbooks off the fridge. Now everything is either on the counter or the freezer.

And I’m not feeling all that well, either. Maybe tomorrow, I will mostly rest up. Still, it looks a lot better than it did a month ago.

I’m thinking of getting doughnuts and a fruit-melon tray for the guys at Muffler Shop, just in case someone is on a diet. And who isn’t, these days?

I have the dentist again at 10:00 tomorrow.

I'm reading Nikolai Gogol's novel Dead Souls. It's weirdly fascinating, although not much has happened so far.

Twenty years ago, I would have gotten all the tubs emptied and the other jobs all done within a week. Twenty years before that, I could unpack a three-bedroom house in two days, max, and have it looking like we had lived there forever.

Age and illness. But I do what I can when my body lets me! YAY!!!

Ouch for tomorrow!

More puttering tomorrow, but Ordinary Mary will be cleaning up after me and making the bed. It’s a good thing I didn’t shampoo the rug before I got the stuff out of storage, as I would have had to do it again.

Do I want to go to Walmart in the morning? Just because I can now drive, rather than walk? Or wait until Friday? I can go early! YAY!

102, 17%, T-storms building over the mountains.

I need a sun tea jar, but I haven’t seen one I wanted that I could afford. Maybe I’ll find one in a thrift store. Speaking of that, I’m getting another load almost finished for the thrift truck.

You’re doing great! I gave Frank and Kathleen baths. Usually I have one of the older boys run Frank through the shower, but once in a while he needs to actually get washed, and not just wet!
