My opinion on the settlement of the Central Park Jogger case is that its a disgrace. A detective close to the case, and who has followed it since 1989, calls it the heist of the century.
Settling doesnt mean innocence, but it indicates incompetence on several levels. This case has not been dormant, and many people have asked why it took so long to settle? It is politics at its lowest and worst form.
What about the other people who were brutalized that night, in addition to the jogger?
One thing we know is that the amount of time, energy and money that has been spent on this case is unacceptable. The justice system has a lot to answer for, as does the City of New York regarding this very mishandled disaster. Information was being leaked to newspapers by someone on the case from the beginning, and the blunders were frequent and obvious.
As a long-time resident of New York City, I think it is ridiculous for this case to be settled and I hope that has not yet taken place.
Forty million dollars is a lot of money for the taxpayers of New York to pay when we are already the highest taxed city and state in the country. The recipients must be laughing out loud at the stupidity of the city.
Speak to the detectives on the case and try listening to the facts. These young men do not exactly have the pasts of angels.
What about all the people who were so desperately hurt and affected? I hope its not too late to continue to fight and that this unfortunate event will not have a repeat episode any time soon or ever.
As citizens and taxpayers, we deserve better than this.
Mr. Burns also posits that there were no “wilding” groups in NYC in the 1980s - just boy scouts having a jolly good time prancing through the streets of Manhattan.
I remember it differently. Of course, I lived in NYC. I don't know where the hell Burns lived at the time.
Would be interesting to follow the money here and see if any of it winds up with family of the guy who confessed. IIRC he was doing a life stretch when he said he did the rape and so had little to lose. Just a thought.
Al Sharpton is having a celebration rally in Central Park today. I’m sure some of the money is going into his pocket. You’d think he’d spend a little money on his Action Network building in Harlem which looks like a death trap for his employees.
This story is an outrage. I was twice a victim of wilding in NYC and have no respect for these so-called victims. I notice the Central Park jogger is not exactly holding out a olive branch to these creeps. Trump is right to be outraged. I only wish Sinatra was around to mouth off about it as he did at the time.
New York is a festering disgrace. However, that said, the LIBs/DIMs deserve their lot.
There’s much that is good about NY. Yes, its government is very bad but it has many fine points. Freepers tend to only see the evil in large cities not their virtues - mainly cultural.
DeBlasio will wreck NY like Dinkins did. This latest stunt of paying off convicted rapists is proof positive.
FWIW I seem to remember reading that the DNA found matched the guy who confessed, and none of the 5.
Correct, but the ER people at, I think St Lukes/Roosevelt said her injuries did not lend themselves as being inflicted by only one perp.
They were suing for $250 million. Had it gone to a jury trial is there anyone who doesn't think they would have gotten it?

Celebrate the criminal
