The White House on Friday announced a new effort to save honeybees, birds, bats, insects and other pollinator species that are critical for the nation's fruit, nut and vegetable growers but are dwindling rapidly.
California's $4.8 billion almond industry — the world's biggest — is especially imperiled because the crops are exclusively pollinated by honeybees, which have experienced dramatic declines over the past 60 years, the White House said.
Habitat loss, mite infestations, the loss of genetic diversity and increased exposure to pesticides are some of the reasons why there are only 2.5 million beehives in the U.S. today compared to 6 million in 1947, the White House said in a statement.
President Barack Obama ordered the Agriculture Department and the Environmental Protection Agency to lead a government-wide effort to understand precisely why honey bees, Monarch butterflies and other species are dying off and figure out ways to stem the declines.

Sure glad he is giving his attention to the really important things going on in the world. Don’t get me wrong the honey bee is valuable and its decline isn’t good, however is this something the resident should be giving his attention to at this moment.

The enviroweenie government turned the central and southern valleys into dustbowls over a transpacific dinosaur fish. It follows that the bats, bees and butterflys would then lose their farm, orchard and ranch habitats.
California agriculture primarily needs WATER!
But the EPA cut that off to ruin the farmers, and pointed to some tiny fish as endangered species.
There are many post here of the farmers and the protesters pleading to get the water turned back on as decades of perennial crops dry up and die.
This is just phase one of yet another land grab / poke in americas eye.
Maybe they should ban windmills which conservatively kill over 600,000 bats per year along with untold numbers of birds.
NOOOO. The liberal way is to set up expensive classes to teach the bats and birds with some lib teacher. Then they won’t know why the animals didn’t show up.
When there is an oil spill and a few dozen seagulls are killed... oil companies end up paying billions. Windmills kill 1.4 million birds and bats per year but it is completely overlooked. The 3 per cent of power in the USA generated by windmills has to be backed up with enough conventional power generation facilities to completely cover the substantial portion of the time that the wind conditions are either too strong or not enough for them to be used for power generation. The inmates are now running the asylum.

Does this mean he’s going to tear down all of the windmills that confuse bats so they can’t eat the bugs they need to survive?
I am a bee keeper. All the problems we have are traced to scientisits importing strains, selective breeding, colony design of man's choosing, forced over crowding in fields, swarm prevention, and the use of drugs, antifungals, and just stupid intervention of the natural behaviors of colonies.
