The only way a omnivore can live healthily on vegetables alone is if they supplement their diet with foods that are not found in their local environment. The same holds true if they eat a totally carnivore diet, but in that case they would have to eat organ meats that most people can’t (or won’t willingly) eat to get the nutrients that are not present in the muscle fibers they eat normally.

Cats are obligate carnivores, they can and sometimes do eat some vegetables (I have a cat who adores mushrooms fried in garlic and butter) but they can’t digest them well, and they do not get the nutrients they need from them.

Your cat sounds amusing! But in all my years of having cats I’ve never been able to get them to eat anything but meat, meat and more meat. If I gave any cat a potato, she would prefer to starve than to eat it. And cats will refuse to eat.

These people are idiots. Same for parents who feed babies “low fat” diets.

You might want to go easy on the garlic. It’s not all that harmless to cats, regardless whether they like eating it.

Read the comments. They explain why garlic and other allium vegetables are bad for cats.

However, I understand that a small amount of garlic every once in a great while is good for eliminating fleas.

“I have a cat who adores mushrooms fried in garlic and butter”

My stepdaughter used to have a cat (may he rest in peace) who loved corn. It was the only thing he would actually beg for.

Garlic-butter mushrooms sound delish. Wish you could fax some over for ME. My cat really enjoys and thrives on his diet: Grain-free crunchies (Indigo Moon) all day plus Fancy Feast for breakfast. Some vets say that crunchies are not enough because cats don't drink enough water, so I mix water into his Fancy Feast pate, making it soupy. He thinks that's fine.
