“The last thing you want is law enforcement to injure someone innocent,” Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Well...maybe the second to the last thing. The LAST thing you want is to injure someone in law enforcement. Right, Joey?

“I wonder how many of these raids are being done as a request of rival drug deals in an effort to take out their competition?”

Bingo...we have a winner!

And btw, the ‘informant’ should also be charged as an accessory.

There was no malicious act performed.

Right. Dumping a flash bang in a crib is not malicious, just an accident.

You try it and see what happens.

read up on Don Scott (iirc '91/'92); he was shot/kill, on a no-knot raid.
After an investigation; it was found out, LA City wanted his land for a park.
So they set-up him up on a bogus drug raid. No drugs were ever found
on his land, the city wanted his land for free (confiscated WOD).

It’s hard to understand how these cops have come to view the world and their role. In an ironic twist, these guys truly believe they are battling domestic terrorists (drug dealers), rather than behaving as them. Do yourselves a favor and read this article from the local news—accessnageorgia: http://www.accessnorthga.com/detail.php?n=275516

They are unapologetic and have more sympathy for the feelings of the grenade thrower than the boy or his family (whom they allude knew what was going on and are sorta guilty too).

“Our team went by the book. Given the same scenario, we’ll do the same thing again. I stand behind what our team did.”

and...

“We hate that this happened,” Terrell said. “This tears our soul out, but we cannot stop standing up and being the thin blue line against those who don’t care about, who want to do the domestic terrorism and sell dope and make the money. We’re still going to stand between them and still do our job - we’ve got to.”

There is more of the same in the article—these guys really seem to believe they are heroes for doing this despite what happened, and that it’s not their fault AT ALL. Absolutely no consideration of the slightest possibility that these tactics might be to blame in any way, shape or form. No sense of self-examination or ability to see this from another’s viewpoint. Like sociopaths, I guess—not being a psychologist myself. Sure is sickeningly common and disturbing LE behavior these days though.

P.S. I have been to Habersham County —it’s mountainous, with redneck rural folks. Not exactly Compton...

Now the cop that threw the grenade has to live with this the rest of his life.

Good!

Look at that cigarette butt at his feet! What kind of parents would allow their infant to be around known health threats?

Those cops probably saved him from a life of abuse.

... but in this case, I blame the legal system, not the policeman whose life will be forever haunted by this horror.

And it is important to note that the police had no way of suspecting that there could be a child present: it was not a bedroom, and the homeowners had no children.

The bottom line is that there is no excuse for throwing a live grenade into a child’s bed. Period.

“I know there are many cop haters on FR, sorry this doesn’t fit your stereotypes. Thank you to Officer Acerra for serving the community as it should be served. Very well done.”

Yes, there are many on Free Republic who have no sympathy for thugs who throw live grenades into people’s homes.

This is not the first child hurt or killed because of such actions, and it will not be the last.

Reasonable people do not defend *anyone* in *any* line of work who commits such atrocities. That does not make them “_____ haters”.

It’s a simpleminded ploy to claim that those who speak out against wickedness “hate” a certain group, and it’s one which attempts to distract from the wicked behavior, allowing it to become prolific.

Consider carefully the decisions you make. They have eternal consequences.

It’s worse than that.

They *didn’t care* who or what was in the house.

Reasonable people *assume* women or children may be in a house and act accordingly.
