Same here! But found out this week that Walmart does not carry coffee beans. Not one, nada zip. But all kinds of Starbucks crap coffee grinds. Yuck!
My wife normally does the shopping, but I was substituted this week. It’s been a learning experience for sure.
The French have invented a number of decent things. The pressure cooker w/ safety valve, the Fresnel lens, the French 75 artillery piece, etc.

I’m with you on the Jet Fuel; it’s wonderful. Now we’re on Amazon.com’s “subscribe and save” and receive a monthly delivery of San Francisco Bay’s French Roast, which also is excellent. We like the component of the cups. Instead of a rigid plastic cup, the bottom is soft — what filters are made of. We’ve been doing this for about two years now and have never had another issue with the Keurig machine being clogged. After openine one of the small packages, we keep those pods in an air-tight glass jar to stay fresh.
You’re right about the price, too. For an excellent cup of coffee, 50 cents is pretty good. And there’s zero waste.
I did order one box of a different brand because the price was SO low, and the pods had a disgusting glob of dry instant coffee in them. bleeccch. They went in the trash.
I think Rush created the great excitement about Keurig a few years ago after having used one in a hotel. He gave them to friends for Christmas, and raved about them on air.
When we ground our own beans, we loved the Columbian beans sold by Costco — I think is was “Suprema” or similar. Now we have no Costco near us.
Yep. My French press works just fine.
You can buy Keurig style cups that are refillable.
Best of both worlds, much reduced cost, and the simplicity of the system.
Downside—needing to periodically make up a batch of cups.
Upside—ability to sample many types of ground beans, etc.
Since there is a Keurig machine at my work, I have decided to buy a small quantity of refillable cups, make my own supply at home, and try them at work.
If that works out, come home and impose that upon my sweet bride of 46 years.
Never heard of K-cup ether. I brew my own coffee just by pouring boiling water through a coffee filter that has coffee grounds in it.
Never tried a French press. I’m sure not a morning person and the K cups work great for getting to work on time.
Recently, started back working out. Getting up about an hour earlier so I make a full pot. Been getting my coffee at Dollar General. Their “house brand” coffee is Clover Valley Farms(I think). Doughnut Shop blend is pretty dang good. And cheap...........
I must be doing something wrong with the Instant. I guess. Can’t stand the stuff.

We used single serving drip coffee plastic filters at home...that way we both get drip coffee... I really like Gelavia coffee, which is very smooth, pre ground and available at supermarkets Wallmart and Target...
In a pinch I drink Starbucks Instant VIA coffee..what they call micro-ground coffee... It’s very good.. I buy the Medium House Blend, because I don’t go for bitter dark coffee beans normally one finds at Starbucks.
WHAT?!?!? Best coffee I've ever had in my life. What chu talkin' bout willis? We actually purchased a "camp" coffee pot to make perc coffee on the stovetop, but after a while it was too time consuming when sleepy.... We dallied with a 40 cup electric percolator once too! Wow.
Currently, we use a Bunn into a thermal carafe for the morning coffee, and a keurig style Bunn for everyone else. Used to be, we'd ask around if anyone else would drink coffee before making a pot, and we wasted gobs of coffee. Now if I want a cup when I come home, I make one cup. More expensive per cup, but cheaper in that we buy less coffee to dump down the drain. We buy some at Sam's club for approx $0.40 per cup, which is high, but a case lasts a long time. ONE MINUTE for a cup! Yah, baby.
Someone was telling me that Dollar General had good coffee.
My ‘cheap’ coffee is the 8 O’clock brand French roast. Goes on special every month or two at my local supermarkets, so I get the two-for-one specials then.
I can only ever drink coffee with freshly roasted beans out of a press or espresso drink. Once you taste fresh beans, everything else tastes like garbage. If you have to put cream and sugar, the beans are stale.
Wonder how many welfare mommas have these machines?
French Press might be great, but when I was in France about 10 years ago, actually Monaco, tried to order a Mocha at a fairly decent establishment. My Cuban waiter told me they do not have Mocha in France. At least at that time they did not. Kinda shocked me. Thought I could get the best Mocha there. The waiter tried to make some with their fine fancy french chocolate, but it was dreadful.
Funny you mention it......I’m used to those damn keurigs now, and the other day I had a BREWED cup of Chock Full O’ Nuts.....DAMN it was good! Forgot what I was missing.
None, I suspect.....they probably go for the starbucks grande’ double mocha vanilla supreme, with the almond croissant.......
It’s too little for me. I drink over a pot of coffee a day, mostly decaf, and I use the grounds for compost/fertilizer. It’s too much effort and there’s a lot of plastic waste. I’m not an eco-freak by any stretch, but I don’t like the plastic waste that comes with stuff like this. I’ll stick to grinding and brewing my own.
Canned coffee on sale is $2.69, up from $1.99 recently. Fine to say you get fresh coffee for $.50 a cup - but a can of coffee must make at least a dozen “six cup” pots. So from that POV I’d say $.50 a pot is outrageous. Only disadvantage is that it takes a few of minutes to brew it.I still make coffee for my wife daily, but since I now only drink the occasional small decaf, I cheerfully overpay for that at a shop.
