Faced with growing public anger about a poisonous environment, Chinas government released a yearslong study that shows nearly one-fifth of the countrys farmland is contaminated with toxic metals, a stunning indictment of unfettered industrialization under the Communist Partys authoritarian rule.
The report, previously deemed so sensitive it was classified as a state secret, names the heavy metals cadmium, nickel and arsenic as the top contaminants.
It adds to widespread doubts about the safety of Chinas farm produce and confirms suspicions about the dire state of its soil following more than two decades of explosive industrial growth, the overuse of farm chemicals and minimal environmental protection.

Anyone care to bet that the USA will get sued for the toxic cleanup?
Are they allowed to openly discuss this in communist China??? Wow.
“It’s your one way ticket to midnight
Call it Heavy Metal
Higher than high, feelin’ just right
Call it Heavy Metal
Desperation on a red line
Call it Heavy Metal noise “
It they are admitting to 1/5, reality means its probably 1/2.
nom nom nom...chicken from China.
Mercury makes a great fertilizer.
Might be the kinder, gentler communism of Teng Hsiao-p’ing, but it’s still communism. The report wouldn’t have gotten out if the Party didn’t want it out, probably to generate sympathy in the “international community”.
No, 5 billion people will simply form a human bridge and take the land from the rest of the world that they require.
Not like anyone has the guts to stop them. Putin I guess but not our dear reader.
Might this explain why the Chinese are so eager to gobble up our farmland, and other physical assets?
Fresh garlic usually comes from China.
and Harry Reid wants to bring them to the US so they can get to work on CLEAN ENERGY ? LOL
But we dont do physical checkups. If we find out we have cancer, its only a burden on the children.
Any freepeers know if there is technology to remediate heavy metal contaminated soil?
I have the soundtrack to that film on CD - good stuff.
Yep... Working on that very solution now. :-) I began studying the problem in relation to the possibility of farmland being contaminated from nuclear fallout.
It’s usually a very expensive process to clean the soil, whether by heat treatment, chelation and/or washing. One less-expensive way around outright soil retreatment is soil management, where the goal is to prevent plant absorption of the contaminants.
Global Warming. We will have more of our money confiscated from us so China can be clean.
Of course getting rid of ethanol and growing more corn so we can export food to China would be out of the question.
I was thinking that planting some kind of plant that absorbed the heavy metals (potatoes or maybe kudzu) and then processing the plants to recover the heavy metals might be an option. It would take the food out the food chain but there are likely other uses for the crops - ethanol perhaps?
no wonder they are buying Africa
and probably will be buying our farmland, too
these reckless sociopaths are already barging into US food processing
