Hey - the ossifer was just CONFRONTIN'.

It's what they do.

Just another installment of "Cops and Peasants" (which is a lot like the old child's game of "Cops and Robbers", except only the cops have guns...).

A grew up in a small rural town.

In the town next to me there was an incident where a high-schooler was driving home some of his drunk buddies on a Friday night. The kid driving was sober. A police vehicle put its flashers on and followed the car. The officer then stated the car over radio was not slowing down, even though he did within fifteen seconds. The kid's buddies fleed the vehicle when he pulled over.

Another cop, hearing the broadcast, went into speed-racer mode to "assist" the other cop, going near 100mph in a twisty, lightly populated area. He missed a sharp turn and crashed at 90 mph into a couple's house, collapsing the second floor they were sleeping in. The officer was killed. The officer pulling over the kid arrested him and drove him to the house. There he exclaimed to the kid how the dead cop was all his fault, saying over and over, "you are responsible for this."

Ends up being the dead cop was getting therapy for anger management issues from a divorce. On trial the evidence clearly pointed to the car stopping within a reasonable amount of time. Didn't matter, the kid was found guilty based on police testimony.

The judge was a friend of the dead cop and wanted to make an example of the kid. He booked him for six months for whatever minor offense they could pin on him, something what would have gotten anyone else probation at worst.
