One thing I’ll always respect Anthrax (NYC boys) for is after 911, when the media were looking for a scapegoat, they went after Anthrax about the name and were in full clutching of pearls lather about how the name was ‘inappropriate in a 911 world”.
Anthrax, who was pretty much on the state fair/career over list at that time did a concert, came out in clean room bunny suits and said “WE Are NOT! changing our name!”
F’YEA!
Good for them!
Best band: Little Richards Upsetters back up band.
I’m a bass player and Geddy is my musical idol. I can play nearly their entire catalog and I own a Fender J bass, Geddy’s model. All that said, their recent work has really bothered me. They’re completely anti-God, as demonstrated by songs such as Faithless and BU2B. I still learn from them musically but they’ve lost my respect for being so blatantly anti-faith. Heck, I still use one of their lyrics as my tagline...
While Ive liked Rush since the late 70s after hearing The Trees for the first time on an FM rock station, I have to say that it was one of the best concerts to which Ive ever been and I became a much bigger fan after seeing them live.
One of the things I noticed was the diversity of the people at that show: young, middle aged and older, obvious heavy metal types, hipsters, frat boys, a few Naval Academy Midshipmen and quite a number of people who look like they manage your 401k funds : ) . There were two black guys sitting next to us and they knew all the words to all the songs, and after talking to them on the way out after the concert was over, I learned they were both Julliard trained musicians and huge Rush fans; the one guy was a bassist in a jazz band and the other was a studio musician and a drummer in a rock band.
And speaking of bassists, while Neal Peart is considered one of the best rock drummers, Geddy Lee is an amazing bassist and is consistently listed in the top 10 among the best rock bassists of all time. And Alex Lifeson is no slouch on the guitar either.
No one can argue with that!
What's not to love about a band whose drummer says his favorite memory is their gig at Hollywood Bowl...but they never played there.
Seriously though, my vote still goes to the Beatles, with Zeppelin coming in a close second.
“I still learn from them musically but theyve lost my respect for being so blatantly anti-faith.”
I used to think that they (or Peart at least) was looking for the answers. But I have lost hope on that aspect, and feel sorry for him/them in that regard.
Nope. A lowbrow Canadian comedy that was filmed as though it was a documentary, which has something of a cult following. This ep had a cameo from Alex Lifeson, and the intro has the Helix reference.
Warning! NSFW! Harsh and extremely salty language.
A lot of muss and fuss over the vocals of the lead singer (Geddy Lee) but I think it works well for the type of music the band plays.
Some people think Rush is one of the greatest rock bands ever. I think they are a pretty decent band and I like most of their albums but I wouldn't put them in the top tier.
