South Texas Family Claims to Have Killed the Mythical Chupacabra

The Ohrt family in Victoria, Texas, gunned down an unidentified beast in their backyard over the weekend. The mangy beast looks like a Coyote with big teeth and long legs. Although the Chupacabra's existence has yet to be confirmed, that hasn’t stopped rumors of possible sightings.

A south Texas family claims that they killed the mythical Chupacabra in their backyard. Doug and Lucy Ohrt of Victoria proudly displayed the slain beast that their grandson gunned down on their property last weekend.

“My grandson ran and got the gun and shot it at 240 yards, and my grandkids said, ‘Oh that's a Chupacabra,” the grandmother told Newscenter25.

The Ohrts analyzed the unidentified animal’s lanky legs, sharp teeth and other attributes and concluded that it couldn’t be a regular coyote — raising questions as to the beast’s origin.

Legend says the Chupacabra, which means goat sucker in Spanish, feasts on livestock with impunity. Tantalizing rumors began swirling after the first Chupacabra was reportedly spotted 20 years ago in Puerto Rico.

But people often mistake more common animals such as coyotes and wild dogs for the creature, experts said.

Animal experts also attribute the spike in sightings to people deliberately breeding canines like coyotes and wolves with domesticated dogs and letting them loose so they can turn around and report them as Chupacabras.

Local scientists were not convinced that the Ohrt family had finally ended the wild speculation over the vampire-like beast.

"I’ve seen squirrels, raccoons and coyotes in this area with the same features" Wildlife Biologist Josh Turner told the station.

The mangy creature has spooked the Ohrts, who say they will keep the animal away from their livestock on their family ranch.

"I’m scared they are going to get my dogs" said Ohrt.

Yup. It looks like a sickly coyote. How these silly stories make it into the media circle is the bigger mystery.

Coyote with mange.

Wolves didn't go extinct in the areas where they disappeared. They bred with coyotes. Modern coyotes don't look anything like they did a hundred years ago. They look a lot like wolves, because that's where a lot of their genes come from.

They used to be real skinny with real long legs.

Or eastern coyote...cross between a wolf and coyote. We have been seeing lots of them where I live near Pittsburgh. Greentree PA even has a warning about them on their community webpage.

Some of my co-workers ridiculed me after I told them about them. I have seen them for years.

When Greentree posted the warning I was vindicated.

The Ohrt family in Victoria, Texas, gunned down an unidentified beast in their backyard over the weekend. The family next door reported their dog missing the same day saying “We aint seen that mangy mutt for two days now.”

Oh, come off it. That posting on the website wasn’t any form of vindication; the Reptilians and Small Greys subjugated your brain waves to tow the line and hide their plan behind the recent conflicting stories of the Fawsnome Man and Yaral sightings near Leesborgh and Fontoch.

Coyote with mange. The Enquirer would be embarrassed to post this. What was the Daily News thinking?

These people should be embarrassed except they love their 15 minutes of fame.

It is a coyote with mange, I even saw a vet on TV declare this.

Nice logo placement.

Yes, like the clever folks at the Florida TV station who covered George Zimmerman's injuries in the police station video. Purely accidental in the placement, I'm sure.
