FULL TITLE: The moment woman jogger in headphones is knocked to the floor and handcuffed by cops because she didn't hear when they tried to ticket her for jaywalking

A female jogger out for a run in Austin, Texas, Thursday was arrested, handcuffed and hauled into a police cruiser screaming and in tears for allegedly failing to identify herself.

The entire incident was caught on video recorded by Chris Quintero, a student at University of Texas who was sitting in a cafe across the street and witnessed the woman being taken into custody.

The arrest took place just before 11am outside a fast-food eatery near the intersection of 24th Street and San Antonio Street in Austin.

If someone had grabbed my hand from behind, I would be doing a lot more than pushing his hand away. Who does that cop think he is?

She was arrested for not giving them her name. Is it a legal requirement that I give a police officer my name just because they ask for it?

One point is, why would anyone jog in a crowded area where
police are known to ticket jaywalkers?

*************

This is a block or so off the UT campus. Apparently there have been complaints from area
businesses/citizens. One article I read indicated the police have been targeting the area
to try and enforce compliance with rules of the road from drivers/bicyclist/pedestrians .

(Police haters may now commence with their tirades)

Heh, gotta love the inherent defensiveness of a "preemptive strike". Anyone who disagrees is now a hater, and their response is nothing more than a tirade. LOL!

Most people would say “how can this happen in Texas?”

One must remember that the exceptions to Texas are the liberal bastions of Houston and Austin. Possible others along the mexican border, but those two for certain.

If I am going to issue you a summons...yes it is required. Otherwise I couldn’t issue the summons...make sense?

It was for failure to identify. She had no ID with her.

SCOTUS already ruled in case that joggers are not required to carry ID.

There is no law that requires you to have to have ID on you at all times. Everywhere states have periods of time for you to get your ID and present it, within a certain time period. Where I live its 24 hours, so you can go home and get it, if necessary.

Kinda like issuing a speeding ticket...am pretty sure they can ask you for your license so they can actually fill out the ticket...

She still has to give police her information if they need it to fill out the summons...if she refuses...she owns the consequenses...still failure to identify

I guess any criticism of officers today now is counted as a “tirade”.

To be like you, we could say, let all the folks who believe the police never do anything wrong, let them now begin THEIR tirades against those who don’t mindlessly and blindly bend over for any government agent/officer.

Illegals don’t and wouldn’t. They’d give nothing or give fake names.

Let me clarify my ‘not true’. She was stopped for jay walking which was a failure
to obey a traffic control device. Had she been cooperative she may have
only gotten a warning as the police had issued 28 warning as 7 citations.

Yes, I stand corrected. I was thinking of what she was stopped for rather than cited for. My bad.

Yep... In Birginia, if I can’t prove who you are( no ID, no way to prove you are who you say you are...then I can take you in front of a magistrate until you prove your identity so I can issue an accurate summons...

When she pulled away, she was resisting ticketing. She refused to identify herself. While shooting her would be harsh, the number of cops it takes to subdue a person resisting arrest is not the issue. What is at issue is she jaywalked, would not identify herself, insisted she did nothing wrong, and attempted to flee.

By the way, more police officers makes it easier and safer to subdue a person like this young punk.

Young punk?

Jaywalking makes you a punk now? Deserving of being thrown to the ground and stepped on, how about they stomp her bloody too?

We’ll show her what happens you Jaywalk in this town!

She should have been bringing girl scouts to the nudist camp for a pot party like a good girl instead.
