Preppers’ PING!
You realize that the fun is all datamining, right?
Sometimes I swear FReepers are worst than vampires about sucking the life out of every little thing.
You realize that by coming to FR and reviewing my post there’s not much that thery can’t figure out about me?
I turned out to be Darryl. Wasn’t even trying to, honestly answered, but he & Mischone are shall we say my most admired.
Maybe you’re right. My FB page is full of friends (most of them real-life friends) announcing which fictional character they are most like. After they’ve done three or four of these quizzes, any marketing firm that buys those data has all of their tastes and beliefs pretty well triangulated. I just don’t understand either what the fun is of taking baseless quizzes or figuring out which TV character I’d be like. Factual information—name, age, occupation, education, etc.—I expect them to collect, but I hate giving them easily quantifiable data about my reactions and beliefs.
Is you life so short that you worry about something so simple? If they want to know something about you they will just ask the NSA.
I’ve already stuck out my neck by being the keeper of the prepper ping list. If something comes up I’ve already painted a much big target on my back by doing that then by taking some funny little quiz.
As far as not understanding why its fun I think you more than likely just don’t understand fun and think it silly. Iam as serious a person as you can find or I wouldn’t be a prepper, by if you stay up tight all the time about every little thing you will end up living a very miserable life.
I’m Daryl. Maybe it was the motorcycle question ...
How are they datamining individual people by name?
Glenn
Is that good or bad? I have never seen the program so I don't know.
Don’t watch Zombie movies or TV shows. Rarely watch Vampires (Abbott and Costello or Van Helsing’s viewpoint).
Most of these games are distributed on Facebook. Most people on Facebook use their real names or something similar. Even if the name they choose is not the real one, it provides an identity to market to: the person who calls herself Joanne Rushfan provides locating, education, and career advice as well as lists of friends. She will get ads targeted to her, and the data she has provided will be sold to marketing companies that want to capture her demographic groups. That is Facebook’s business plan. They aren’t running gigantic server farms for us just because they’re so sweet and they want to make us happy.
Gotcha, I run anti-Facebook protection, but I know that most don’t.
Michone. It seems abundantly clear to me that swords are the most practical zombie-killing weapon.
