I’ve been all over yahoo , other sites just laughing and posting how global warming is a hoax.
for 30 years the news media has been saying that the Ice caps have been melting. In this story the news media HIDE that this ship is full of global warming scientists out to show how the ice is melting in Antarctica. actually there is more ICE in Antarctica than has ever been measured. global warming is a big lie. this shows that we can’t trust what the news media nor what scientists say ever on anything. do your own research on the internet and keep in mind that almost all news and a lot of science coming out is actually political propaganda that is meant to enslave us to government(socialism disguised as news and science as the global warming hoax shows). dumb democrat voters believe all the media lies and instead hate us for saying the truth. it’s the gov and media trying to enslave us and them . we Republicans are just saying the truth which would save freedom and our way of life. but for daring to say our opinion we get attacked viciously as being deniers or racists(both lies)

Unless they have steam boilers to allow the ship to melt free and rise, it will get crushed.
Sounds like it may end up a 4 ice breaker fix with our Coast Guard (and wallets) coming to the rescue in about 10 days. They may or may not be able to reach them (they are rated for about 50% thicker ice than the Aussie cutter, which was the best rated to try and fail to date.) I think the Soviet nuclear icebreakers are even more capable (they’ve reached the North Pole.) But I’d never heard of them being used in the Antarctic and hadn’t known why until this thread. I presume China (and France) have ice breakers to support their Antarctic science missions. France has been there for a long time; the Chinese are relative newcomers and may have made a rookie mistake. I wonder her captain is to be blamed or whether political pressure from back home for China to look heroic lead to poor decisions. At least the French and Aussies knew their limits. I have enough faith in our competence that I wouldn’t expect ours to get stuck - even if Obama gave dumb orders they’d interpret them safely.

I *KNEW* what I was going to find behind that link. That album has very strong sentimental associations for me. Back in the 90s once in a while I would break away from everyone and everything and go home- or as close to it as I could get given that ‘home’ as I remember it, doesn’t exist anymore.
In my case, it was Mill Valley in Marin County. I used to drive down Throckmorton, Old Mill Park, up Cascade Canyon, up to the Mountain Home Inn and all over with that playing.
Miss it. Going back for a visit as soon as it warms up. Thanks for posting that.

there is a video of an expedition that took the same route 100 years ago. and it was a lake no ice . so in 100 years a lot more ice. so ice caps are not melting after all that co2 in 100 years. global warming is the biggest lie ever they use to turn the world into a socialist state and enslave us.

Shape and construction of the hull is also a factor. Some hull shapes are pushed more ‘up’ than ‘in’ by ice pressure, but most hull shapes don’t. The ice would beat this one given enough time. Chopper rescue may also be a problem. After all they are stuck just offshore from Mawson’s old base camp. The windiest place on the planet. Where winds averaged 50mph over a whole year and reached 200mph. Oddly Mawson’s expedition brought the first ever airplane to Antarctica. They never were able to get it aloft but did use it some to pull sleds.

From one of the photos I saw, it looked as if the ship was being lifted up by the ice and is listing.
Short of being crushed I’d be surprised if it actually “rolls-over”.
