I heard on Fox & Friends this morning that Phil had been warned about making such comments when their show went on the air. If he agreed to such an arrangement, then he shouldn’t have spoken out so forcefully in the interview. All he had to do was say as a Christian he believes homosexuality to be a sin.
I’m not feeling quite as outraged about A&E’s actions if this is the case.
Don’t depend on the MSM to tell you the truth. They’re all spinning very hard. Duck Dynasty is popular and people can be influenced by what the Robertsons say. The libs don’t like that.
Where does the left find you guys?
He gave an honest answer to an honest question. Supposing that he had signed away his freedom of speech, without actually knowing, and using it as an excuse as to why being railroaded for enjoying the Constitutional protections of free speech might get you an interview if A&E ever needs to hire new help.
But if there was a morals clause, Phil must say moral things like he did!
The parts of the interview that are most offensive to homosexuals are almost word for word quotes from the bible. The rest is mostly just personal observation and common sense. Mr. Robertson is just the messenger. The real battle is with what is written in the bible.
Don’t talk like that anymore on the FreeRepublic. How do you like it?
That's a big "If" and so is the fact that an interview with GQ set up and accompanied by someone from the show is not the same thing as saying it on the air.
“All he had to do was say as a Christian he believes homosexuality to be a sin.”
He did, with nothing more than explaining why he believes it in the simplest clearest terms. Perfectly reasonable. They asked, he answered.
Sorry, I stand with Phil over what liberals are doing to our society and forcing on Christians.
It is time to choose, to make a stand. Do we as a people allow these evil people suppress the 'Bible', God and his followers or stand up and say we have had enough of God being silenced.
Put a sock in it! You sound like a hand-ringing liberal. Phil did not do a damn thing wrong. The fault is 100% with A&E.
“I heard on Fox & Friends this morning that Phil had been warned about making such comments when their show went on the air”
It would be necessary to actually see the written agreement with A&E to know whether he agreed not to discus his religious views during the filming of the show or whether he agreed not to discuss them in any other context.
That would be a ridiculous agreement, and given the family’s strong Christian beliefs, I have a hard time crediting the idea. The Robertson family are still individual private citizens and as such have a right to express their personal opinions/views. Phil was not representing A&E when he did the interview — nor was he representing the show created at A&E. This is no longer the “golden age” of Hollywood where studios can dictate what an actor/actress can and cannot say and put limitations on what they can do privately in order to keep their livelihood. Those kinds of “contracts” haven’t been around since the 40’s - or 50’s at best.
You can not warn somebody not to refrain from religious speech. And being an employer does not exempt you from that law. Read Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
I heard on Fox & Friends this morning that Phil had been warned about making such comments when their show went on the air. If he agreed to such an arrangement, then he shouldnt have spoken out so forcefully in the interview.I've read that early on when the show started, the producers had asked them to tone down praying and had inserted unnecessary < bleeps > to make it seem as if they uttered profanities.
The family confronted them at the time and told them to knock off the fake < bleeps > and that they were a Christian family who would continue to express their faith as they saw fit. If A&E didn't like it, they should cancel the show.
The producers backed down. I expect A&E will likely back down again, primarily because they are blinded by the dollar signs (certainly, not out of any moral sense of right or wrong) -or- wthere is the possibility we might see the Robertsons on a different channel, continuing to express their faith and even more emboldened to righteously denounce sinful acts.
he did not speak out forcefully in the interview, he just answered a question
Anyway, for A&E this will be a lose / lose.
He didn’t make the comment on Duck Dynasty.
