A Georgia police officer shot and killed a tiny Jack Russell Terrier that he claims threatened him during a routine probationary checkup on Monday.

The officer, Antoine Jones, is over six feet tall and weighs nearly 300 pounds. Patches, the dog he killed, weighs just 12 pounds, according to a local news channel.

Jones visited the Albany residence of Cherrie Shelton earlier this week to check on her son, who is serving probation. Upon Jones’s arrival, two-year-old Patches approached the officer and began barking. Shelton claims she told Jones that Patches was no threat, but the officer drew his weapon and shot the dog anyway.

After being shot, Patches fled and hid, eventually succumbing to her wounds.

According to Jones’s statement, Patches advanced toward him in a threatening manner even after receiving “multiple verbal commands to get back.”

But Shelton said this was not Jones’s first visit to the home, and the officer should have known that Patches was harmless.

Shelton buried Patches, and has plans to buy a cross to mark her grave. The dog is missed, she said.

You were one as I recall. Seems you're back at it again for some reason.

Hmmmm, you seem to be back too....

Last nights thread was a sensible discussion till you showed up with your disruption and flame bait.

you insult

Where are the names you accuse me of using? You make allegations and don't back them. That is trollish behavior, isn't it?

Probation officers pop in all the time. You know...just to say “Hi, how’s it going?” while they look around for stray beer bottles, or worse. Knew a guy that tweeked and sat around looking through a slit in the curtains, waiting for his PO to show. Otherwise, he’d have just sat around looking through a slit in the curtains.

Per the article, the owner was home at the time. If the dog was trained, she could (and should) have given the command. Never assume a dog just ‘knows’, or that any visitor ‘knows’ a dog is safe. Virtually any dog can appear to be threatening.

That said, the officer needs to use a bit of common sense in this case.

Um, this statement makes the story ooze of parody...but after re-reading I'm afraid it was for real. This cop really must be that stupid.

I think the best way of dealing with this would be to publicly embarrass the man, by taking up a collection to get him psychiatric treatment for his “severe, crippling fear of dogs”.

Lay the sarcasm on thick, complementing his police department for hiring “the handicapped, *despite* his morbid obesity and psychological problems”.

Then perhaps question their judgment in arming a person who lacks the “emotional stability to work with the public”, and ask if they have hired any other officers who may present a “public risk or menace”, because of their deep seated fears and phobias.

“We certainly hope that none of the other officers are so terrified of say, small children, that they feel they must shoot them after experiencing a neurotic panic attack.”

Hey Admin, could we get a quick reprisal of last nights thread to shine some light here?

Please do. Especially the posts directed at me by Las Vegas Ron.

Yes, you insult. You did it last night. Pretending innocence today doesn't work. Others on this have already called you on it.

Have I memorized your insults from a pulled thread? No. Of course not.

No big difference between probation officers and cops.

Both work for government, both have powers of arrest, and both likely belong to government unions.

Give it up Las Vegas Ron, its a waste of time and will only end with this thread getting pulled as well.

We all know a troll when we see one.

See there ya go again. If you really are a LEO up in Alaska I’d wager you don’t spend much time out of the office. Way too many places to hide the evidence up there.

Maybe he was just jealous of the dogs energy and ability to move.

Once again, we’re simply letting the gradual erosion of both our rights and the increasing power of the government to continue unabated. I hate to say it, but we’ll only have ourselves to blame when the endgame arrives.

Correct. The endgame will be unpleasant for all concerned.

The only one “vulgar” around here is you.

Please post evidence of my vulgarity. If posting accurate information is "vulgar" in your book, maybe you should avoid reading my posts.
