Former champ Ken Norton dies

LAS VEGAS -- Former heavyweight champion Ken Norton, who beat Muhammad Ali and later lost a controversial decision to him in Yankee Stadium, died Wednesday at a local care facility, his son said. He was 70.

Ken Norton Jr., a coach with the Seattle Seahawks, confirmed the death to The Associated Press before handing the phone to his wife, too distraught to talk.

Norton had been in poor health for the last several years after suffering a series of strokes, a friend of the fighter said.

I used to have a copy of Ali's jaw xray when KN broke it. My sister in law was the xray tech. RIP, Ken Norton!

I was a big fan of Ken Norton back in the day. Sad to hear this news.

I met him many years ago while in my young 20’s down in San Jacinto where he was training. Very nice guy and huge with biggest set of muscles I had ever seen. I was very impressed with his class. Great Champion
