AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy (AFNS) -- They waited patiently each day, week and month checking the news, filing repeals and losing hope.
But, Master Sgt. Angela Shunk and Tech. Sgt. Stacy Shunk received the news they had been longing for on Sept. 3, 2013, when the two Aviano Airmen were informed that they had received an assignment together under the join spouse program - the first of its kind in the Air Force since a Supreme Court decision about the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act.
Prior to the June 26 decision, the Shunks were faced with the near certainty of separation. Their unit - the 603rd Air Control Squadron - had been slated for inactivation for summer 2013 causing the Air Force to reassign all of its Airmen. Although legally married in the state of New York on March, 17, 2012, DOMA prohibited the Department of Defense from extending benefits, such as join spouse assignment consideration, to same-sex spouses.

Awwwwww.... [spit]
Now isn’t that just “Special”
Makes ya want to puke.
Ewww.
So, let me get this straight.
We’re organizing our military operations based on which homosexuals want to screw each other while abroad?
Yeah, this ain’t your grandfather’s military.
Maybe they can go to Syria together.
Begun? Begun???
You're kidding me.
The downfall has come and gone. We are already fallen and won't be getting up. Welcome to the land of Gomorrah. Where you face jail time if you don't fully condone perversion. (Don't believe me, look up the case of SMSgt Phillip Monk of Lackland AFB...who is facing Court Martial...not for publicly stating his disapproval of his commander's lesbianism...but for refusing to publicly state he supports homosexual "marriage")
The most disturbing part about this story is that it is coming out as a press release from the official USAF media service.
We’re f#cked with a T.
The funny part about this is that I used to be assigned to the 603d Air Control Squadron at Aviano...about 15 years ago.
I cannot even comprehend going on some of the deployments we had and having to deal with the “diversity” of a couple of quote end quote “married” rug-munchers.
The somewhat unique aspect of a Ground Theater Air Control System — GTACS — unit was that they wanted you to be separated many, many miles away from the nearest tactical air base. As could be easily imagined, an air control radar was considered to be a little bit of a missile magnet. And so when the unit deployed, it was a long way away from the nice cozy shelters, hot meals, and other little niceties that the Air Force provided its folks who deployed to TABs or even FOBs. I don’t even want to think about having to play “diversity footsie” with a couple of lesbos in those circumstances.
I don’t think Putin is gonna appreciate us sending our gays to Russia for the Olympics. One can only hope that Putin might decide to restore free elections in America.
Does this mean straight couples will be stationed together?
Begun? Hell’s Bells! The downhill run is almost completed!
I'll give them some respect, whatever their sexual preferences, for the fact that they're our troops, they're putting their safety and their lives on the line for our country. But that's it. I'm not defending them as homos, because good lord, under any other circumstances they'd be guilty as all hell:
Good lord, no, I agree with you -- their sexual behavior has no place in the military. I wasn't defending it whatsoever. I was only saying I respect their service, same as I do any service member. But I draw the line at that, for these. I thought that was pretty clear from my comment, but if it wasn't, it is now.
> Would you feel the same way if you had the bunk underneath them?
Geez, I would hope that a heterosexual couple would not have the bunk over me either. Active sex doesn't belong in a bunk in a shared room, period. I'm pretty sure that's a reportable offense, regardless of who's doing it, right?
Not sure there's much elsewhere to go... the rest of the country is is similar shape, no? If God's wrath descends upon our military, I have a feeling it will be because it hit the rest of the country along with it.
It's frankly frightening to consider that Russia is, in this one regard at least, more in line with God's rules, than we are.
I am shredding my DD214,my HD and will no longer admit that I served this nation in what was the United States Air Force. I have no idea what is is nowadays but it is no longer a cohesive military arm of the American people. Sad and disgusted.............
I thought the Air Force was into carpet Bombing not carpet munching
