Help me choose a laptop, PLEASE

Please help me choose which laptop to buy:

A http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AM7MM4I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

B http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0075ZRAKG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A33O72BR8EJNQK

I want to go with 'A' but it comes with Windows 8- which I'm not used to (I have always used 7) and afraid of. I hear a lot of negative comments about it.

I didn’t know they still sold new laptops and pcs with windows 7. is that the case for a lot of brands?

Are you strictly limited to 11.6 screen? If not you can get some great deals from Tiger on refurbished Asus 14” Windows 7 and W8 laptops for just $50 more with much better specs.

concur, and I would put battery life above HD size. I only have 128 GB on my laptop, but 6 hours of battery life has made my current laptop a lot more useable for me.

A few years ago, I bought an HP Pavilion. It’s OK, but I do regret not buying one with a 10-key numbers pad. Probably important only if a person is used to production numeric data entry. Typing number the “old-fashioned way” sure cuts down on speed and accuracy.

I bought a low end Toshiba Satellite L-305 on purpose, but I wish it had more RAM and stuff now. Plus the hard drive crapped out and I now use Linux Ubuntu. I am going to install Windows 7 eventually and run Linux Ubuntu from the USB card.

I’ve had two Asus Gaming series laptops (a G72 and G74) and my wife uses a regular Asus and they are very good computers. I sold the G72 to a friend and he’s still using it.

I use Dells at work and they’re OK, but not great. I’ve had to replace quite a few of them over the last 10 years.

I’m very partial Asus for their quality and reliability.

I like the lit keyboard myself a lot.

As for buying, I recommend staying away from HP/Compaq. What field service and warranty work comes my way usually has one of those two in the work order.

I like Dell (am a Dell tech sometimes) but maybe Acer, Sony or Toshiba. Maybe IBM Lenovo.

The past couple of years, the droid handles 95% of what I need for travel purposes so I may be on my last laptop. I go weeks and not even turn it on.

battery life on the Toshiba Satellite is BAD, after 18 months I had to have my plugged in like a desktop.

If you are just cruising the web and blogs like FR, take a look at the tablet pc’s. Cheaper and batteries last a lot longer, less maintenance.

Windows 8 is not too different from 7 once you go to the desktop.
