Good News Thread (Vanity)
self | 8-6-13 | vanity

Posted on 08/06/2013 7:55:18 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

I apologize in advance for the vanity. After perusing the various news sites this morning, I can find very little good, inspirational, or optimistic news. I'm starving for such stories. So, I offer this thread for other members of FRee Republic to post links to "good news" stories for early August.

The regular news stories (from children being strangled by pythons in their sleep to Yemenese being offed by our unmanned drones and Americans being forced to flee the country in terror) is so darned depressing that I hunger for stories of kindness and hope. Let's see how long we can make this thread.

Just post a link (copy and paste the url -- you don't have to do anything else, thanks to John Robinson's software) and a few words to say what it is about. There! That's a good news story right there. We don't have to use HTML any more, unless we are trying to post something fancy. :)

Have at it.

That must be a color photo, but it’s foggy there.

Yes Marin County California for all its politcal progressiveness is still a lovely place.

That flag on the rocky hill has been there forever! But there appear to be scant few photographs of same.

I processed it to appear to have been shot with black and white film. It was mildy overcast during my brief "photoshoot"

I was on my way to nearby Inverness CA out on the regularly foggy Pt Reyes Peninsula ..where the movie THE FOG..was said to be shot..

If I had to rely on film...at this point...Id be flat broke after shooting several hundred images a week.

Some images such as this one...just "demand" to be seen as "black and white"

Here’s some nice news from Wisconsin (I live here too!)

A mom tracked down the man who gave her son a baseball at a Brewers game so she could say thank you for his generosity

Thank you for starting this thread. We should do it everyday.

When you follow the news, like all of us do, it can get pretty intense.

Thank you for the reminder of how wonderful life is.

I allowed myself to get so wrapped up in that infamous recent Trial that I actually became nauseated.

Balance !!

Philippians 4:8 KJV

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Are you saying that I should get out and mow the lawn? (I should.) And a nice day (weatherwise) in Wisconsin is ALWAYS good news.

Mikey — I didn’t know that an American flag EXISTED in Marin County! That is really good news. I used to live in Bezerkeley and later in Piedmont, so I know Marin County. When I was in school at Berkeley I went to a lot of parties in Marin Co. Fond memories.

The Dalmation is wonderful. You are right — much better in black and white.
