Can't detect low-flying cruise missiles in real time with them.
Despite the nonsense you see in the movies, with a low-earth satellite at best for any given spot on the ground you get a brief (minutes long) look at it every few days. Even a huge number of satellites still only allows you to see a given area part of a day. You don't get a continuous movie.
Cool now they can watch a cruise missile obliterate them real time.
My ignorance is on full display, but I fail to see how such a missile could be launched ‘low-flying’ from the start. Wouldn’t it need ‘horizontal view’ to home-in correctly?
And what would the eye-in-the-sky give them in the fog-of-war in terms of reaction time? 5min? They couldn’t scramble jets fast enough to take own a 747 on 9/11, but a cruise missile is just fine?
Lastly, I find it troubling that they presume that D.C. is a target rich environment in need of ‘protecting’ but not ANY OTHER city of either seaboard. That, to me, implies those in D.C. deserve protecting more than any other Citizen of the U.S.A.
