‘Stupid,’ ‘Immoral,’ ‘Dangerous,’ ‘Coward’: My Month With a Gun
The Daily Beast ^ | July 22, 2013 | Heidi Yewman

I knew going into my 30-day experiment of living with a gun that I was putting my family and myself at risk.

Only two days into my experiment I went to breakfast with my two kids and some friends. After eating and shopping, my gun with me the entire time, I was anxious to get home to enjoy the warm weather. I put my purse on the counter and then spent the next hour out on the back deck. Walking into the kitchen to refresh our drinks, I noticed my purse with the 9mm Glock still inside it. I’d forgotten to lock it up! Panic set in as I realized my teen son was playing videogames just 10 feet away. What if he’d decided to get the socks I’d bought him from my purse while I was out on the deck? Thoughts raced through my mind and I pondered how I’d just straddled the fine line between being a responsible gun owner and an irresponsible idiot whose 15-year-old just accidentally shot himself or someone else with my gun.

...

Since having the gun I’ve had two repairmen, a carpet cleaner, and a salesmen in my home. If the gun’s for self-protection, it’s not going to do any good in the safe, but it’s not really practical to have the gun pointing at them as they work.

Blah, Blah, Blah

Her sheer stupidity is a danger to her and her family, with or without a gun.

I liked one of the sidebar videos of Lisa Kudrow (”Web Therapy”) talking about kinky sex.

That’s not a Glock in her purse. I think she’s just another lefty scheisser.

Not sure what's pictured. Older S&W auto, I think.

And I notice that she's regurgitating the egregious Kellerman's long-since discredited "Gun is 43 time more likely to hurt you than a bad guy" idiocy.

Well, I did scrape my knuckle pretty badly when I was building my AR. Hurt for a bit, bled a little, but I'm much better now!

Reads like fiction to me.

Exactly. How many teenage boys rush to dig through mama's purse to grab the new socks? Agree with the comments that she's a clueless dangerous idiot.

Suspiciousness and fear of people is new to me, and I don’t like it.

Heidi has developed the slightest degree of situational awareness, and I have a feeling she will have some lingering suspicions and fear, and now have to deal with the fact she will be a victim, unarmed and defenseless.

Heidi, you suffer from Hoplophobia and you really should seek professional help.

My Mom taught me early that you never go into a lady’s purse.

Even now, I have problems going into my wife’s purse even when she asks me to. It just isn’t right.

She carries her Glock in a holster anyway.

Like she never thought to teach her 15-year-old not to touch the gun.

I bet she taught him all about using a condom so he didn’t get a girl pregnant.

The obvious parody of this is “My month as a liberal”, showing the utter dysfunction of the liberal “lifestyle.”

However, living a month in jail would probably be more enjoyable. All the hatred of others might give you ulcers. Your bad behavior would be a shame to your family. Learning to be a racist and sexist would be revolting. Despising liberty and freedom for others is despairing. And then there is a bitter hatred of God, religion, faith, honor, fairness, freedom, etc.

It is easy to understand why they embrace euthanasia.

Why don’t your teen boys already know how to shoot and know gun safety?

And the most egregious error on her part: equating not thinking about a threat as being the same as that threat no longer existing. Such a basic, basic fallacy in thought, and she let it right on out.

Bingo. You see that one all the time.

On 9/12 there were all these interviews about how people no longer felt safe.

I, OTC, felt more safe. Knowing a danger exists is better than being unaware. Less comforting, but it at least allows you to prepare yourself mentally.

You always see discussions of whether people feel safe in particular neighborhoods, as if there is any correlation with their actually BEING safe.

So an inanimate object is controling her thoughts. That could indicate a common problem with left wing nut jobs.

I will admit, the last time I held a gun, it *did* change my thoughts. It made me feel uncomfortable with the guys I was spending the day with. That was mostly because I realized that I could not chamber the bullet on the .45 by myself, and had to keep asking one of the guys to do it. That's really embarrassing--thought-changing, even.

She's a liberal. Why would you expect her to think logically?

She must not have lived in some of the neighborhoods I grew up in--the kind of neighborhood liberals like her love to put poor people into. Having to look over your shoulder all the time because you're terrified of getting raped--having an encounter with a mass murderer--these experiences leave you always suspicious of other people. You're healthier and more likely to survive by being suspicious, IMO.

Depending on the gun... you can probably replace a spring (or springs) so that it will be easier to chamber a round. I had to do that with one of my wife’s guns, after she just could not get comfortable with it. Now it is one of her favorites.

So I decided to keep the gun in a locked safe when I was home. But that didn't seem to soften my worry and overall anxiousness.

She should remain worried and anxious! Guns are notorious for escaping safes, but sometimes they just shoot their way out, by firing at the same spot until the metal becomes red-hot and pliable.

Guns are extraordinarily dangerous, and no mere safe can stop them!
