We just had a plant that had about 14 tomatoes on it. Very nice not yet a blush. Today they were all gone. No green pieces laying around that we could see. Hubby suspects 2 human varmits.
We are going to be pricing some motion sensor yard security type camera to try and see what’s going on.
I was able to verify that the damage to my sunflowers was not cut worms or 2 legged varmits, but slugs. Went out at midnight and found it. He’s dead. Will be putting out some containers of beer and spreading some DE about too.
As I remember, they were all very very sweet, so I wonder if they could be spiced and sugar reduced for a bit different product.
I also read that watermelon seeds are very nutritious and can be roasted like pumpkinseeds to eat - Well who knew? I was always told not to eat the seeds, or a watermelon might grow in my stomach. What nonsense adults tell kids sometimes.LOL
Dried a bunch of green onions on the dehydrator. Put them in the blender and processed to they were all just powder. Very easy, and take up very little space.
Humans stealing green tomatoes.
My only thought when I read that was the movie ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’ ;) Game cameras might help. Keep us posted on the saga of the tomato thieves.
No tomatoes just yet at my house. Unusual for us, even though we were late getting them out.
Hopefully they’ll stop sulling soon. Plenty of blooms, just no maters...
I’m going to take pics of my rice blooms and pumpkin patch tomorrow morning.
These were probably the mortgage lifters, but I haven’t visited the scene of the crime yet. So we’ll see what I find out when I go out to look around.
Our peach trees are dying, and we have not been able to figure out what’s going on. I think they were weakened by last year’s drought, and the spring was so wet, that they have a fungus.
Any way one tree has lost all leaves and appears dead. One has lost half it’s leaves and the others are turning yellow. The third has about 25% yellow leaves and dropping some daily.
We used fertilizer made specially for fruit trees. Haven’t seen any bugs, aphids etc. I think Hubby should dig up the dead tree to see what the roots look like, and spray the others with fungicide and pyola, and take off all the fruit.
We have clusters of grapes that have a disease or fungus they are turning purple and hard at the bottom of the clusters. Last year a coon got all the low hanging fruit-at least we thought that was what did it.
So far this year has presented more mysteries to solve than before.

Thanks- I have dried alot of things but that is a great idea and it is new to me. I am going to try this with the excess of winter onions I have. The tops at this time of year are pretty strong- but I just use less accordingly.

Update on the chicken wire - it’s working to keep the armadillos out but the cat that’s been hanging around left a present in the enclosure this morning. Ok, my fault since I put out food and water for him/her this week. I’m choosing to chaulk it up as fertilizer... same with the present the big dog (no, bad dog!) left in the middle of the path to the garden.

So far under our no-rain environment, the only tree (really a shrub) is the Chaya spinach tree. Maybe giving it too much to drink?
The tree I expected to die first, the mango, planted in the shade of a massive shade tree on the south side of house, still thrives.
Had to buy supports to hold and train additional growth. Stalk not needing support was hard and looked like tree bark. Growth needing training was green and bent with the wind.
Bought 8 foot plastic stakes. Tied the tree to them.
Outcome . . . unknown.
