Personally, I think [Bruce Campbell]’s best performance was in “Bubba Ho Tep”; he was really good, and genuinely believable in his role. It was like he was channeling Elvis Presley.

I agree. It was the very definition of poignant.

Yeah, probably, but this isn’t a shark/giant bird/lizard/dog idea.

YES! It was; an excellent performance.

My dad was a big Bruce Campbell fan as well (he went with me and my then-girlfriend), and he loved “Brisco County, Jr.” He always felt that Bruce is a solid actor, easily leading man, but for whatever reason, Hollywood never gave him a chance; they never took him seriously.

But he’s still one of the best actors around, along with Ron Perlman, another underrated actor.

Speaking of Ron Perlman, I’m hoping to go see “Pacific Rim”, Guillermo del Toro’s tribute to all things kaiju and giant mecha. I’ve read some reviews, and the vast majority of them have been positive. I get the feeling that del Toro is an otaku.

LOL!

What do you mean? I tuned in for an entire 15 seconds before I was too bored to watch any more.

After seeing all the tweets, I turned it on for five minutes..to see the shark in the living room about to go up the stairs..

Some of the tweets of titles for other possible z-movies were hilarious. I laughed when I saw vaginaconda suggested as an idea...in the snakes on a plane genre.

This is where the term “independent movies” gets confused. There’s a small packet of resistance here in Hollywood that the Asylum guys actually fit that description. Big actors who star in small movies who get a distribution deal are IMHO, sell outs. Asylum dudes don’t rely on distribution as they know they won’t get it LOL.

BTW, I met Sam Raimi when he asked us to do post production for Spartacus but we couldn’t meet on the budget and referred him to one of our friends who eventually did, and is regarded as one of “us”.

Bruce Campbell has always been a favorite actor. Mainly for TV stuff like Brisco County and Burn Notice.

I knew it’d be awesome when they used a photo of a cyclone (clockwise rotation) for the hurricane (counter-clockwise rotation). We have to watch it again with captioning so we can figure out what the first scene was about. Nova’s modified “Squint” lines were super. (Tears).

Nice.

Asylum is mostly direct to DVD with quite a bit of it ending up on SyFy, isn’t it? I know here in the Czech Republic, Asylum films can always be found at newsstands and bookstores. They have something of a cult following here.

I was first introduced to Bruce Campbell’s films back in the summer of 1987 by a friend of mine who dragged me along to see “Evil Dead II”.

Yes; there’s a bookstore here known as Levne Knihý - Cheap Books - and when you go through their DVD section, you’ll find Asylum titles; “Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus”, “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid”, “Titanic II”, “Two-Headed Shark Attack”, and others.

Newsstands - called ‘trafika’ frequently carry Asylum DVD’s as well. In my local train station, there’s a video kiosk that sells DVD’s, and they have a special section called ‘Asylum katastrofa filmý’: Asylum disaster films.

LOL; I’m sure he will. One of my former students was a huge fan of Asylum films; she loved ‘em. Another one, he had about a dozen Asylum films on DVD.

Asylum films seem to appeal to the Czech sense of humor.
