U.S. officials were late in seeing the crisis coming, and their advice — much of it out of step with events — was ignored by all sides. Consider this tweet from The Big Pharaoh, a secular Egyptian activist prominent on social media: “History will remember that days before #June30, the ambassador of the world’s superpower spent 3 hrs in MB leader Khairat Shater’s office.” The remark underscores how U.S. policy toward Egypt is widely reviled — and misunderstood. The tweet refers to a meeting between U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson and the political boss of the Muslim Brotherhood shortly before the enormous anti-Morsi demonstrations began; Patterson reportedly pleaded with Shater to persuade Morsi to meet long-standing demands from the opposition, such as forming a politically neutral cabinet and instituting an inclusive process to amend the constitution passed over popular protests late last year. In theory, secularists should have been pleased that the U.S. envoy pushed such an agenda. Instead, they viewed the long meeting as a sign of U.S.-Muslim Brotherhood collusion against democracy.

I hope Egyptians understand that just as a minority of Egyptians are wrong headed and/or corrupt, the same is true in America; that just as they can elect the wrong people, so can we.

There is only one organized political party in Egypt, that is the Muslim Brotherhood. The MB has been around a long time, and they are the ones who extended the original franchise to al-Qaeda, as their “shock troops”.
The Muslim Brotherhood is just an Arabic version of the National Socialist German Workers Party, and they draw a great deal of inspiration from “Mein Kampf”, which has been translated to Arabic and widely distributed.
People make the mistake of believing the Nazis were some kind of “right-wing” organization, and that is one of the great myths of the 20th Century. There was NOTHING that even remotely resembled “right-wing” in the philosophy or practices of the Nazi party that dominated the Third Reich. That was a piece of disinformation propagated by Stalin, and perhaps only from the perspective of International Socialism could National Socialism be considered to be to their “right” - but still WAY sort of approaching anything like “the middle”.
We may be sure of one thing, the gay faction under the Muslim Brotherhood is not a prominent player in the current series of events in Egypt.

Why do the morons in the State department and the politicians continue to send ambassadors to Muslim countries who are almost guaranteed to be ignored and/or disrespected? I refer to women ambassadors of course.
The fact is that women in almost all Muslim countries have a different status in the culture. It is part of their religion and the region seems to be reverting back to a stricter form of Islam which doesn’t bode well for liberation of women.
In our arrogance, we seem to feel that by pushing our women in diplomatic jobs into positions of power that interact with government officials that we will change their culture or that they will ignore their own feelings of superiority in dealing with them.
I often wonder if Muslims don’t privately think we are insulting them and their culture by sending women ambassadors to their countries. We should take into consideration the mores of the culture that represents such a large segment of the world.
This isn’t a misogynist rant. I respect the many talented women in our diplomatic corps, but surely our purpose shouldn’t be to put their careers ahead of the national interest. Why not take the ambassadorships such as England and France that traditionally go to rich male campaign donors off the table as political plums doled out by Presidents to their supporters. Let our most talented women serve there—or in posts in countries which don’t have a religious bias against women. It isn’t our job to change the world to meet our own cultural preferences..

Democracy is antithetical to Islam. Why act outraged when the “democratically elected” MB guy starts acting like a Caliph?

Not disagreeing but would suggest that the appellation "Right Wing" to a totalitarian statist overtly Socialist by name party of pagan homosexual rabble can be better laid at the feet of the American news media and the Democratic party from 1941 (American Communists had a surprisingly positive view of Hitler and his war on the Capitalist democracies until the moment he invaded the Soviet Union) to the present day.
