who cares?
Great keyboard solos, especially on “Light my Fire”.
I don’t know how, but it must be Bush’s fault.
I thought he was great. He seemed to be the most level headed of the group.
As if I needed more help feeling old.
That said, RIP Ray. The Doors were part of the soundtrack of my life in my junior and senior high school years.
Sad. I never got the whole Doors thing, condolences to his family.
The Keyboard work on Light My Fire can only be described as Iconic.(possibly the only other iconic keyboard man from that era would be Garth Hudson ie. Chest Fever)
RIP Ray, you entertained me.
I saw the Doors in concert in Seattle. The music stopped and Morrison bummed a cigarette from the audience, lit it up and then the fire marshall shut down the bands power and turned on the lights. Concert over.
RIP, Ray.
Manzarek was a first cousin of a girl I went with before I joined the Army. She loved to talk about getting backstage passes at Doors concerts.
Manzarek really let his keyboard talent shine in ‘Light My Fire.’ Fantastic song!

That said, so many don't appreciate the gifts that are given to them, they use it, abuse it, even throw it away.
Even though part of that era, Ray Manzarek(at least in most interviews I had seen anyway) seemed to keep it all about "the music", you could see/hear his joy in the cultivating of his gift, and the pleasure of sharing it with others.
While I'm sure he still got caught up in all the crap of that time, many of us just appreciated..."his music".
RIP.
Did the Doors use a studio bass player in their recordings (in L.A. it would almost certainly have been Carole Kaye)?
(Too lazy to search for it.)
So, I actually came to the Manzarek party a little late, in the late 1970’s when he produced the first two albums by the legendary X, Los Angeles (upon which he played) and Wild Gift. Two of my favorites for over 30 years, now. I guess he would still play a song or two with X live now and then up until last summer. Awesome.
Manzarek recorded an album with blues guitarist Roy Rogers two years ago called Translucent Blues that was very good.
RIP
