Cool stuff, thanks!

She is Army, something to do with Nuclear Ops, and due to weird timing has seen very little combat. She often says she has patch envy. I like the idea of the officer’s oath. Do you think she’ll get alot of stuff like that?

As a female field grade officer in the Nuke functional area, she has never seen any combat and never will. She probably hasn't even been deployed the past 10 years.

By "patch envy", she probably means that she has no deployment patch on her right arm, so everybody knows the good Colonel has never deployed.

I doubt that she’ll get anything like that. But the fact is that the career of a military officer is all “about” the oath. It’s the one true job description we all have, and all share. No expiration date on it, either. So those who have, still do.

The one thing I’d say that if she missed her time in the “chit” I would avoid buying gifts that imply combat time. I would also avoid jewelry, like rings, because that’s something that many other people might think of giving.

I like the idea of an inscribed weapon, if that’s something she’d like and appreciate. In her case you might consider another idea, like getting a nice wood-stock, lever action rifle and having someone carve out circular areas on both sides of the stock where you can have her unit and command coins inserted.
