I’m gonna say Samsung.

Great phones and the Samsung tablet does everything you need.

Can be had at your local Costco.

I’m very happy with my Samsung note 10.1.

A number of reviews put the Asus T300 on top. I got one with the keyboard attachment for under $500 last year.

The keyboard has its own power supply so I get 10+ hours of battery life on a single charge.

The only flaw is that the spring (or whatever) on the clamshell is strong, and a few people have cracked their screen opening it. Just have to be careful with it and it will be ok.

I also got my son a Google Nexus tablet. He doesn’t go anywhere without it now.

Would any Freepers be able to offer suggestions/experiences in regards to what would be a tablet with an excellent outdoor-viewable screen? I’d like to get one for use on the boat...

The best one is the one that hasn’t come out yet. (That’s my attitude, seriously, as I’m waiting for the next generation of Chromebook.

I have the first generation Kindle Fire that came out in 2011. Use it every day to access Facebook, Weather Channel, and You Tube, some games, have downloaded many conservative books. Great for streaming many free TV shows and films. The second generation Kindle Fire with SKYPE is even better altho I may move up eventually to ASUS for SKYPE and their attached keyboard. A friend was raving about ASUS today.

Another vote for the Nexus 7; IMHO can’t be beat for the price ($199 16GB from Google). Stock Android, always the latest updates, and no manufacturer skins or crapware to contend with. There might be a new version coming out this summer, which should mean a better revision at the same price or buy the last-gen even cheaper.
