.22 LR the new gold standard?
vanity

Posted on 01/29/2013 4:44:13 PM PST by hadaclueonce

.22 LR ammo is on back order at all wholesellers. Who is buying it up?

Oil speculators?

Late to come to the party preppers?

The Feds?

Price on the secondary market has gone up 5 times here in Texas.

“Buy the new Ruger 10/22 takedown. “

A fine idea! It’s not so new though!

“Before the recent craziness, they were selling for under $30. Sadly, like everything else these days, they’re unobtainable.”

I ordered two on www.impactguns.com on 12/21/12 for $29.99 each and they were stated to be, “in stock.”

Same with the .22LR I ordered on the same day from a different seller.

I have not yet received either of them yet. Hurry up please!

Has anyone ever order from Nationalgunsupply.com out of California?

They have some stuff available, but I have never heard of them...

I love the 6.5x55.

Truely an under appreciated round.

People are going to .22 for cheapest target practice. Only now it’s not so cheap.

I miss "the good old days" where every couple of months K-Mart would have their W/W Wildcat .22LR on sale for $5.99 for a 500 round brick.

Of course, that could also say a lot about how the dollar has been devalued over that time.

Mine works perfectly.....with Federal Premium ammo. Every time I used Winchester ammo it jammed.

First problem I've heard with the BX-25. Not first problem I've heard with Winchester ammo.

I saw this thread yesterday and then FR had the scrolling hiccup again. I tried to find .22 ammo just before Christmas and there was nothing but some rat shot.

Wally World is limiting purchases to three boxes per customer now. I even emailed some cousins in smaller towns, and there is none to be found there either.

“Yep. — Perhaps that’s the reason that suppressors are regulated by the BATFE.”

No, the reason is for the 200 bucks and they are a$$holes...

Personal opinion: For starters, suppressors and SBR/SBS should not even be regulated under the NFA at all.

Suppressors make shooting even more enjoyable. They are a hearing-safety item. If anything, OSHA should *REQUIRE* them (if the govt just *must* be involved). The govt MAKES you put a muffler on your vehicle, but you have to jump through hoops and pay a $200 permission fee to have one on your gun. Boggles my mind. Bad guys already know about oil-filters and other improvised suppressors, so I don't see what the regulation accomplishes. Even if suppressors were deregulated and made legal, an oil filter will always be cheaper and more readily available to the bad guys than a suppressor. So again, WTH?

As for SBR/SBS If I can legally carry a concealed handgun with modern ammo in a hi-cap mag, then that pistol is well beyond the mark of "deadly enough to kill people" -- I can't kill someone any "deader" if I use a SBR or SBS. And there is no such thing as shooting someone "just a little bit" in my opinion. So, if you qualify to carry a concealed handgun, then there's no logical reason to disallow SBR/SBS. Not saying I would carry one concealed, but I'd rather have an SBR/SBS for home defense if given a choice. Plus, I see no reason for the govt to be involved, much less pay them yet another $200 for their permission to exercise a basic, fundamental, God-Given right.

As much as the mere existence of the NFA tax-stamp process irritates me as an infringement, I've had not one problem with the BATF folks that process the NFA applications. Quite the contrary, my experiences have always been good, without exception. I can't speak for the entire BATF, but the division that handles NFA applications (at least to me) seems to be on the law-abiding shooter's side. So, although I agree with most of your sentiment, the NFA guys at BATF have always done right by me.

I just picked up a Chiappa 22LR upper. It was close to the same price as a CMMG or other conversion and I wanted the accuracy of the barrel to go along with it.

Where did you find it that cheap?

First, I purchased it 2 years ago. I like to buy in bulk and this was at an auction. I tend to find that large quantities of less popular calibers can be purchased relatively cheap if you are willing to spend a few hundred dollars at a time. You won't generally get $40 of ammo for $10, but you can/could get $700 of ammo for $300.

Of course, that was 2 years ago, but I was buying then in anticipation of now.

Have you tried calling your Walmart, ask for Sporting Goods section and ask?.. You might get lucky! There is a limit of 3 50rd. packs per person and they do not do holds for pick-up over the phone.

Very interesting thread.. This pretty much shows that a) People sense something bad is coming, b) People think the gov't will make ammo unobtainable, c) People think ammo will become currency or a bartering commodity, or d) All of the above.

Yeah, tell that to Officer Terry of the Border Patrol how nice of people the BATFE are. Gonna have to holler kinda loud because he is another victim of a false flag op of the the FERAL Government.

I have a can on a 308 and enjoy it. It really stabilized the end of the weapon and leveled the shooting plane for easier target follow up shots.

Plan on threading the 300 WIN Mag I am customizing. I imagine it will be a dream to shoot and will carry well.

I have my father’s 1950’s era Remington Model 550-1 semi-automatic 22. Shoots any 22 ammo you put in it, all day long. Absolutely love that gun.
