According to the gun review site, "Haus of Guns," backorders for the Magpul AR-15 30-round magazine ("PMAG") have surpassed one million.
In a Facebook post dated today, January 9, Haus of Guns writes the following:
"Had breakfast with a buddy who has reasonably close ties to the Magpul family. Word is the great PMAG panic backorder of 2012/13 has topped 1 million at Magpul HQ."
Magpul is a designer and manufacturer of firearms accessories. The PMAG is one of their most popular products. It is a 30-round magazine designed for the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.

Only a million? LoL.
why you think the libs want to act on all this yesterday...which splains why they had a “plan” ready to go
And that's just PMAGs. Magpul is located in Boulder, Colorado of all places.
I’m thinking that most of these orders are for additional magazines, meaning this one millions backordered mags are in addition to what’s out there, right?
If my math is up to speed, then one million mags is about 30 million rounds. Coupled with way more than that which is already out there, and by gosh, you got a lot of armed folks out there!
Kind of warms your heart, don’t it?
Will they ever get to manufacture them or sell them? If they manufacture, can they real-time ship to avoid getting caught with a large inventory? You can bet these types of questions are going through the minds of manufacturers of anything Maximum Leader might prohibit.
AR-10’s are also back ordered. Glad that I bought five in November.
Just 1 million? I think that only represents my neighborhood.
I got my mini’s last week. Shop early and often.
Where is your HappyFace?
.
You can b sure that gun products are going directly from Manufacturing to Shipping right now, and spending no time on the shelf. It might not make sense for them to spend money to buy more manufacturing equipment, given future uncertainties, but I would guess there's a lot of overtime being paid.
Watch the #s go up following this post..
Everything’s backordered.
I just canceled a LARGE order of 30 & 40 rnd mags from Bushmaster, placed Christmas Eve. They still can’t give any ship or delivery dates, and if the hi-cap ban hits, it’ll be worthless anyway. I have “plenty” on-hand, from summer and fall shipments, pre-hysteria.
O’Dingo is losing this fight. Call your Senators and let them know exactly where you stand. The US federal government is a force of oppression.
I haven’t checked senatorfeinstein.com yet. LOL!
There was no ammo. Zero, zip, nada.
Methinks the American people are preparing for something...
5.56mm
Nothing about mag there, yet. They’re just getting “warmed-up” at that new website, and it looks promising. Late to the fight, but promising.
I am an expert on this because I have searched every gun/rifle company on the web every single day for several weeks looking for a certain semi-automatic rifle and hollow point bullets and a certain multi-bullet magazine. When I go through that process, I see there is none of that stuff in any caliber.
It gives me a strange feeling to see there is nothing available. Millions of people now have that equipment and generally hollow point bullets means they are ready to shoot people if they have to. I am really old, 80, and have never seen a situation like this.
What it would take to recognize this political disaster in the making and continue to pursue it is arrogance and/or ignorance on an absolutely monumental level. That describes the sitting administration to a T.
We live in interesting times.
Should have bought before the frenzy like David Gregory did.
We need Bloomturd and Chunky Chris to institute price gouging prevention NOW! /sarc
LOL!
(but when I think about the injustice, that’s not really funny)
Lot of procrastination going on out there.
Good news bad news.
The good news is that I stock piled an arsenal in late summer and fall.
The bad news is that I lost it all in a tragic boating accident during Christmas.
I would thnk it would’nt be hard to fab your own magazines. Maybe those new 3d printers would help...
I’m going to go to the same show when it comes up here in Montgomery next weekend. Bill, send your friends up and I’ll buy them a coffee!
LOL. I think I heard about “that accident” on the lake.
Some interesting thigs at AR-15.com, up-thread pics:
obama speech that will never happen. I just have to write it, though, just in case.
“America, I say it is time for another stimulus package. Now that I have invested trillions of your dollars in my roads and bridges so you and I can get between businesses that you didn’t build, but I did, I should invest in businesses that in my view will be successful in my future and provide products for me and other stuff, instead of helping my unions who helped elect me. Ha, ha, jokes on them! I won.
Under my plan, I am going to invest billions of dollars in those weapons companies that I see are producing high-capacity magazines for me for assault rifles, which have become very popular with me and the American public. These manufacturers need my help to build me the new factories and warehouses required so I can produce guns and gun stuff and to grow my investment.
Not only will they be supplying me weapons for self-defense as guaranteed by my Constitution, they will be providing me millions of new jobs for me to tell you about. To accomplish this, I have just written my 10,000th executive order, which creates for me what I call my Easy Gun Access for Defense and Stuff (EGADS)Act of my 2013.
I gotta play me golf, y’all. Say goodbye to me!”

Sorry. Haven’t doubled in a while.
You can still get these Marcella. These are Israeli military mags. I ordered some around Christmas and got them in 2 weeks.

I went to a gun show today and pmags were going for $50 each. I have 10 on backorder at Brownells for $14.95 each.
Went to Gander Mtn over Christmas - all the ammo - 5.56, 762 x 39, 762 x51 was sold out.
All the magazines too - saw 1 5rd for a mini 14
When asked clerks when more expected laughed ans said maybe
in 2037......
Had to settle for 12 gauge 00
The question is, is this a bubble or a long term trend? Those arms and ammo companies are making some boatloads of money right now.
I’m guessing they are shipping product daily, at minimum. Wouldn’t you be? No reason not to, lots of good reasons to do so.
I sold all mine recently when the price went beyond where I could justify keeping it.
even the 12ga 00 is gone now
Not a single round of .22 rimfire or .223 ammo at Gander Mountain today, in College Station TX....
Yea the lake accident was a damn shame, especially since my grandfathers arsenal didn’t survive the fire in 1990.
Now I’m left with a few sporks and kitchen knives.
Mark link.
Couldn't determine that from your writing. Only rank amateurs and the news media don't know the difference between bullets and cartridges.
Bullets are to cartridges as flour is to bread and cement is to concrete, etc. Please learn the language.
I seem to recall Marcella having basic questions about firearms - so I THINK she meant she was an “expert” on searching websites and seeing that everyone is out of ammo and magazines.
Marcella - I THINK that hollow point bullets are typically for handguns. What you want for effective killing of a deer and such is a “soft-nosed” rifle bullet (rather than a “full metal jacket”). There may be other types or terms that are used - but that is what I am familiar with.
Blam,
I was at that show from about 2:30 to 3:30. I didn’t have a problem getting in. There were people steadily entering, but no back up. I know the guy who was counting people when they came in. His clicker said about 3300. There were many AR 15s which surprised the hell out me. Magazines, too, I believe. I did not see large amounts of .223 ammunition, though. Some AR 15s for sale were people trying to make a profit, but a lot of dealers had them, also. I would guestimate the going price for an AR or AK was slightly less than double the price three weeks ago.
P-Mags are awesome. Use to be nothing came close to an AK mag but these things are better than the Ruskies.
They did a YouTube video where they were running assorted mags over with a pickup. PMags still worked, and every other AR mag failed.
