“and if you still use Windows the underlying kernel is still rife with it”

What is an “underlying kernal?”

CDE (Common Desktop Environment) was the default working environment from Sun's Solaris 5.6 through 5.9. They've since switched to GNOME but CDE was open-sourced just a few months ago and it's what I use on Linux as well as Solaris. The clutter in that screenshot (not mine but close enough) is atypical. Generally, I keep Firefox open desktop 4 and xterms on the other three.

You can do more than four if you manually edit the config file.

I tried eight but it was too confusing for my feeble mind. :-) Having just four fits into my comfort zone. It seems that four is widely used since I think it's the out-of-the-box default for GNOME and KDE. As I mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I become accustomed to having Firefox on desktop 4 with xterms open on the other three.

A friend took this photo. She calls it "Moisture". It's actually a picture of her window in the morning right after a light rain. The 'stripe' is where a rain drop succumbed to gravity and rolled down the window. It makes a great wallpaper!

Well, here's the logical desktop:

And here's the physical desktop:

Note the logical one's alot cleaner, and I'm only showing half of my physical desktop. The other half is a nightmare of parts and a radio I'm working on ........
