It’s good to read about your part of the world and reminisce. Thanks. I lived in the Ozarks and other rural areas of that part of the Midwest for a few years.

Well, come on back! We go to the Ozarks often for vacation. We especially like the Buffalo River. It is much less crowded than the “rivers” (think sluggish mudholes) in East Texas. Friendly people, just not a lot of front teeth. {;)}

Sounds like the buck had a nicotine addiction.

Hopefully they slapped a patch on him before they released him back into the wild.

Heh...grew up in southeast Texas. My parents thought they’d like the more tropical weather and moved there, when I was little. [Hot! Humid!] But the people in my neighborhood were great—very old-fashioned and moral.

Stuck here for a while at over 9,000 feet elevation. Temps go way below zero in winter, often with winds 60-80 mph (top recorded gust last year at 109 mph). The regulations are thick, but it is serene, though, for lack of other people willing to stay for long in this climate. Many houses gone vacant from defaults recently. Don’t know why they’re not foreclosing most of ‘em (trying to hold property taxes up, maybe).

We’re getting an unusual break in the weather so far. Very dry and warmer. The drought has finally arrived at this altitude for the time being. Ski resorts (a few peaks away) are nearly all dry except for snow blown on much smaller acreages by their machines.

“had the deer just hung around a democrat enclave on Nov.6th, he could have got free smokes for voting for Obambi.”

Nothing beats a good cigarette right after rut.

Cigarettes might attract deer but I'll bet ya that corn is better.

LOL!! That reminds me of the South Park episode where the boys went hunting with some sort of rocket launcher type thing!

This is not surprising to me as a long time deer hunter. In the early 60s I was stationed at a radar site on Santa Rose Island, off the coast from Santa Barbara, Ca. There were lots of deer, Elk and other wildlife on the island. When I arrived there I was introduced to the Squadron mascot, a young Mule Deer buck, appropriately named Radar. Radar constantly begged cigarettes from the airmen, and he didn’t care if they were half smoked, or whole.

So the crew has been experimenting on the deer to see what gets the most laughs?
Insidious!
But how to make money on it?

A friend of mine posted a pic of her approaching an 8 pointer that had taken up a place in her hedges in the front of her house in California. I told her I would never approach a buck like that, I don’t care how friendly it seemed.
