Shared genes with a common ancestor or mating? But the fact that they died out 30k years ago does NOT prove that they did not mate.

The older and hairier I get convinces me that there’s a neanderthal somewhere back in my family tree. I’m even starting to stoop like one!

If Human Beings (Homo Sapiens) and Neanderthals did not have babies, how did they reproduce and how are we still on this Earth? Can no one out there in editor land write a proper headline in the English language?

"... several studies have suggested that Homo sapiens got it on with Neanderthals..."

What pointy-headed lib-dem moron wrote that?

Sure a lot of confusion about history. I'm not at all convinced there was this "humanoid" hundreds of thousands of years ago. Seems like every "proof" of this (usually tied to "proof" of the "missing link") has actually been proven to be a hoax. I think the earth is probably as old as geologists say it is. The Bible is the friend of true science because true science, tested by a valid scientific method, verifies what the Bible has already asserted.

The Bible indicates man has only been around for about 6000 years. God may have created something like man way before the "recreation" but so far the proof isn't there IMO.

BTW, there is a weird mating between humans and other beings spoken of in the Bible and seems to indicate comes when a society becomes grossly perverted. The offspring were giants called Nephilim. There's evidence Goliath was one of them. I believe they will return in these last days.

This may be true, but the human mating with jackass connection has been proven beyond all doubt.

The offspring is called, “liberal”.

I tend to agree with you. This area of science especially, builds these monumental conclusions with a little mortar of discovery, and a mountain of bricks that are made of conjecture. A level headed person takes these pronouncements with a grain of salt.

if there’s a ‘common ancestor’, doesnt’ that mean that somewhere along the line SOMEbody mated?

Neither did the new article cited have ANYTHING to do with when Neanderthal disappeared.

It was a reanalysis of DNA data that proposed that the population that left Africa shared a more recent common ancestor with the Neanderthal population than the populations that stayed behind in Africa.

While of interest, the finding is hardly conclusive; and the authors language says that via their model there was “less” interbreeding that went on - not that it didn’t happen at all.

That is why journalists should have an actual scientist edit their copy before they send it out - besides not really understanding the subject and having a sensationalist agenda - most are absolute idiots.

Yes, that claim is spurious, since they date Homo Sapiens remains to 100,000 years in the same areas that Neanderthals were living.

The team also calculate that humans split from chimpanzees - our closest primate relative - around seven to eight million years ago, earlier than the six-to-seven million years ago that is a common estimate.

So why are there chimps still swinging from vines, yet supposedly humans evolved (and evolved and evolved...)?

Humans share DNA with chimps (95%), but also share it with cats (90%) and fruit flies and even bananas (50%).

From “Darwin’s Ghost” by Steve Jones, page 323.

“Although Neanderthals, at first sight so similar to modern humans, were once placed on the last rung before mankind, fossil DNA hints that they may not even be on the same ladder. Their mitrochondrial genes are quite distinct from our own. They were not the ancestors of human genes but followed a separate path. For mitrochondria at least, Neanderthals and ourselves split half a million years ago.”
