Pa. Brothers Guilty in Chihuahua Hoarding Case (185 of the little boogers)
AP ^ | 08/10/2012

Two brothers accused in one of the worst cases of animal hoarding in Pennsylvania history have pleaded guilty to animal cruelty less than a month after 185 Chihuahuas were seized from their home.

Thomas and Albert Ambrosia of Benton pleaded guilty earlier this week to two counts each of cruelty and a dog law violation, according to Columbia County court records.

Thomas Ambrosia, 59, said it was difficult for them to enter a plea since they "treated the dogs like our boys and girls." But he told the Press Enterprise of Bloomsburg that they wanted "to get this behind us."

Veterinarians who checked the Chihuahuas — plus two other dogs that were also removed from the residence — found no serious health issues, only minor eye, teeth and skin problems, and officials say they apparently came from a loving home.

2 (presumably) bachelor brothers raising 185 chihuahuas - who weren’t mistreated and were not a public health issue.

Yes, its strange, but its America and they can do what they want - not sure why ABC thinks I should care.

30 dead chihuahua's in the freezer probably constitutes a public health issue.

185 Chihuahuas? Size-wise , wouldn’t that be like owning 2 or 3 Great Danes. ;-)

I don’t get it. My Great Dane feels discriminated against. With a tear in his eye, he just said, “Daddy, why aren’t there any Great Dane hoarding cases like this?”

The brothers were fined more than $500 as part of their guilty pleas. One cruelty count involved neglect of a male coonhound with an open sore on its leg, and the other involved a long-haired Chihuahua with large mats in its hair.

Matted hair?

OH MY GOD!

HOW HORRIBLE!

It’s not what you would see. The little boogers are all inside the house. I’d be willing to bet you could HEAR them however.

Nothing on God’s green earth is more annoying than the sound of a frenetic little bug-eyed dog shaking and yapping.

Nothing.

lolol

YOU could be the first. Why not?

Go get yourself 184 more Great Danes (be sure to keep them all in the house) and let us know in a month how things are.

Well, 185 Chihuahuas comes to about 2 1/2 large dogs. I don’t see the problem. Some of my neighbors went away yesterday, and their little Chihuahuas showed up at my gate. They are cute little dogs, and not yappers, but I didn’t let them in because I was afraid the squirrels would eat them. I did let in their little pit bull, Boston terrier mix, because I thought it inhumane to leave him out there with all those Chihuahuas.

How much money do you think the a-thor-i-tays will make off the sale of 185 purebred, reasonably well cared for dogs?

They are such cute little dogs with such sweet faces!

However, I am assured that their ears are big to hide their horns, lol. (No offense intended to any Chi owners)

“They found the corpses of 30 Chihuahuas in a freezer, but the dogs apparently died of natural causes.”

Cremation costs a lot and in most places, it’s illegal to bury your dog on your property.

Coulda been a money thing.

If you’d ever had your ponytail come loose at 80mph and you didn’t find out until you got home and off the bike, you wouldn’t laugh.

[took me two days of intermittent combing, knot-picking and brushing to get this mess unsnarled]

About $250 a pop, being conservative.

But I’m sure that had nothing to do with stealing their dogs.

Were all- or at least one gender, altered? If the dogs were in good health, not neglected, & living in sanitary conditions- AND these guys aren’t running a puppy mill, I don’t see what the problem is. One dog can have any of those conditions (Chis are notorious for needing strict dental care) or all of them. Chihuahuas are one of the breeds that are overbred, interbred, & carelessly bred.

Not all cremations are just one dog. I guess it’s possible that they intended to have the minimum number to insure that their ashes were just their dogs & no others. I think it’s kinda gruesome, but...

But yeah, this qualifies as hoarding. Imho, people should never exceed the number of dogs/ cats/ pets that they can evacuate quickly & safely in an emergency.

Note, people. 185 Chi Hua Huas, times $250 = $46,250.00

Do any of you think these dogs were confiscated for THEIR benefit??
