Last evening I took my son John Man to the Friday evening Parade at Marine Barracks Washington, the oldest post in the Corps. As we were waiting to be admitted to the Parade Deck, Lt. Gen. Richard T. Tryon, USMC, the Deputy Commandant of the Corps, emerged with Mrs. Tryon from their Quarters and mingled with the folks waiting to be admitted to the Parade.

I introduced myself and John Man to him, and we had a good conversation. It turns out that his earliest posting after TBS was as Platoon leader of 3rd Platoon, Lima Company, 3/5 - my old platoon - in the mid 70's. He was nice enough to pose for a picture with me:

OUTSTANDING Conor.

When I was going to diving school in ‘66 we had 13 Recon Marines in the SCUBA portion of our class. Great bunch of guys.

Thanks, Dave! I met a number of guys last evening. Another Nam Vet from 2/5, a WWII vet, a young lady who's in the Army and here on R&R from Afghan. It was great for me to be back with Marines, and for that matter, with Army and Air Force guys. There was a group of Zoomies attending.

I was treated with great deference by all the active duty personnel I saw, regardless of their rank. Tried to tell them not to call me "sir" but had to stop after a few futile attempts. I offered my hand and thanks for their service to everyone I encountered.

During a break in the Parade, a man was walking by with his young son - the boy came over to me, rendered a hand salute and gave me a "Semper Fi!" I returned his salute and gave him a "Get Some" - the motto of 3/5.

An altogether satisfying evening. It's always great to hook up with some real men (and of course, women) in contrast to the leftist maggots I deal with every day!

Dave, may I ask where you went through Diving School? My dad qualified as a diver late in his career - He was a physiologist and MSC officer who wanted to do research on the effects of great pressures on the body - hence, he went to Diver's School. He was 38 years old at the time - 1965 or 66.

The 18-20 year olds who were taking the course probably hated him - the Chief running the program was continually holding him up as an example. He got into fantastic shape there.
