Needed: A web site where I can look up a movie with just a vague description of its plot
Vanity ^ | 04/02/2012 | Vanity

Posted on 04/02/2012 6:22:55 PM PDT by Sarah

I have been looking for ages for the titles for two movies, and I only have a vague memory of the basic premise or plot: One: a small town, where the sheriff (or mayor) and the whole town are so crooked that they bet on anything, and they end up betting the who treasury on the results of a fight that they go to more and more ridiculous ends to cheat and win. (the word 'dog' in the title?)

Two: An old B/W movie where a man and his lover scheme to drive his wife crazy, setting up horrible scenes of death etc. only to clean up the signs later. (like this he can have her committed, and marry the lover.) LOL I guess 'no fault' divorce wasn't an option. (or money was involved...)

Anyway, I can't find a web site that caters to my needs! Can anyone help?

LOL to Mad Dawgg (re: ‘diggstown’ answer!) I remembered the SOUND ! Get it: Dawgg, Digg???

Anyway, you all are the best! I’m sure that it was ‘GasLight’ (no, not ‘Chicago’, lol)

And it was Diggstown!

That corrupt town totally reminds me of Chicago!

When I mention that it has been a very long time that I’ve been searching, I’m being honest. I hesitated before posting here, because... vanities are... vanities still.

But, for those of you relative newbies...

I once typed in a full article about Linda Tripp from, as I remember, The American Spectator.... and that was BEFORE these periodicals were online!!!

Anyway, Bless you all.

These answers are NOT simply for curiosity, but needed for real people and real reasons.

Best Wishes,

Sarah

Gaslight featured a very young Angela Lansbury as the maid. I believe she was only about 18 in that movie.

www.edmovieguide.com

This is a website of all the movies that are playing in my area. If you click on the films, then you can also click a movie you want to see.

With each movie, is a synopsis.

I am looking for the same thing. IMDB is supposed to have all the movies made listed BUT THEY DON’T!

I am looking for a late 1959-60 movie with Alan Hale Jr as a business man in England who gets into a tractor pull and race with steam driven tractors.

I am looking for a spy movie from around 1968 staring Van Heflin as as a hunted man. The climax of this movie is when he tells a friend to secretly place several loaded handguns behind certain items in a room. “And make sure the safety is OFF!” They were revolvers.

I can think of several but these came to mind. The Night Walker.

or THE TINGLER

Gee, let me in on this. I saw a western when I was, oh, 9 or so This was in 1958 or 59, it was black and white and probably made 4-6 years earlier. I have no idea who the actors were, and I’ve been searching for it for years. Plot was Union and Confederate units get thrown together, beautiful woman in a stagecoach, Indians rampaging around, and in the final act, the soldiers put aside their differences and make a doomed attack against the Indians so that the beautiful woman can escape. Anyone remember what the title was?

Let me take advantage of this thread to give the answer to a future question along these lines:

The answer is “The Blue Dahlia” (1946), and the blond was Veronica Lake.

That is definitely “Major Barbara” by noted “progressive” George Bernard Shaw.

But, if you want to watch a great movie with a Salvation Army theme I always recommend “Guys and Dolls”.

That sounds like the films but I now have another problem.

The Iron Maiden was released in 1962 Yet I remember seeing it on Dec 24 or 25, 1960 at the Caverns theater in Carlsbad NM. Double bill with BELLS ARE RINGING. I was living in Arkansas in 1962 and the first movie I saw there was Kings of the Sun in 1963.

The Man Outside was filmed in color according to IMDB, yet I saw it in SE Asia back in 1969, in Black and White.

The American Film Institute had decade long indexes with synposis (often taken from pressbook materials) for some decades (1920s, 1960s). Sometimes they could be found at the public library.

IMDB has a plot keyword search option that is similar to the index in these books.

It might be “Gilligan’s Island—the Prequel”.

Seriously, I think it might be “The Iron Maiden.” You could have found this yourself if you googled “Alan Hale Jr. movie with tractor England.”

Try his forum on IMDB where the members will help you answer questions about movies.

I’ve posted questions about very obscure movies, etc and they’ve come up with the answers every time.
