"I think we should all get vintage VW Things and make them the official vehicle of the UT."
No. It's still ugly.
However, original VW Beetles will be acceptable. I was joshing with someone today about the Beetle. I recalled the scene in Woody Allen's "Sleepers" in which he finds a VW parked along a beach, presumably having sat there for many decades. He got in and started it up. "They really knew how to build cars in those days!", he said.
Then my conversant mentioned a comedy film in which someone spotted a VW on the moon, and it also could run!
I don't know which movie that may have been, but I want to talk about the VW anyway.
I told the fellow that a VW could be tricked out to act as an air compressor. With stored air, and an appropriate fuel, a Beetle would be able to operate on the moon pretty much like the Lunar Rover.
I had previously envisioned setting up a "Herbie" style adventure for Mars. But after The Brave Little Toaster went there, there seemed to be no point to sending Herbie.
There’s a Thing in my neighborhood. Darned if I can remember what color it is, though, and I drive by it nearly ever day. I’m getting OLD.
Don’t give up on the interplanetary Beetle: Pat won’t be able to go to Ares if there are toasters there.
