My 2012 Super Bowl Commercials Review (With Video Links)
Self | February 3, 2012 | PJ-Comix

The 2012 Super Bowl commercials are already online so I am taking this opportunity to review each of them. So let us start right in with:

Audi 2012 Game Day Commercial - Vampire Party

I thought this commercial featuring exploding vampires sucked (pun intended). It just didn't work for me. Maybe if I was still 11 years old and fascinated by vampires I might have been interested but then I would also have been too young to buy an Audi. The premise is that the Audi headlights are so bright they have the same effect on vampires as daylight. Lame.

Off the top of my head I can think of a more effective commercial. A scene in a trench of scientists. We hear a countdown. The clothes they wear indicates it is the 1940s, specifically the Trinity Test at Los Alamos New Mexico. One of the scientists is even tall and lanky, wearing a strange hat, like Robert Oppenheimer. As the countdown is close to zero, one scientists hands a very dark pair of goggles to another and warns him not to look directly into the light. When zero is reached, we hear no blast. Only an incredibly bright emission of light. When the light gets darker, the scientists take off their dark goggles and look out of the trench directly into a pair of Audi headlights. Not an exploding vampire in sight.

The Dog Strikes Back: 2012 Volkswagen Game Day Commercial

I like the first 45 seconds of this commercial featuring the bored dog. Unfortunately, VW could not let go of their great commercial from last year about the kid Darth Vader so they injected it into the end of the commercial. You need to let go, VW. You had a fantastic commercial last year and you need to let your new commercials breath on their own without referring back to it.

"Transactions" Extended Version - 2012 Acura NSX Big Game Ad #JerrysNSX

This one made me laugh. Jerry Seinfeld wants the very first Acura NSX but is informed that someone else is ahead of him on the list. So Jerry goes to extreme lengths to bribe the guy for the first Acura NSX. Good one!

Official 2012 Honda CR-V Game Day Commercial - "Matthew's Day Off" Extended Version

Nice spoof of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" but couldn't they have done this commercial with a sportier car. Something Ferris Bueller would enjoy driving?

Doritos - Make Your Own -- Crash the Super Bowl 2012 Entry

Eh! Cute take on alchemy but not all that great.

Banned 2012 Super Bowl Commercial **WARNING: Not for the sensitive

No wonder this commercial was BANNED. Treating mass murderers as a joke and shoving a kitten into an oven is NOT FUnnie. Particularly disturbing is when the murderer threatens a couple of kids with a knife. What is really astounding is that the creators of this condom commercial didn't realize it was in such incredibly POOR taste that there would be no choice but to BAN it.

NEW Doritos Super Bowl Commercial 2012

Why do I get the feeling that Doritos is trying to appeal to nerds?

The Bark Side: 2012 Volkswagen Game Day Commercial Teaser

You need to let go, VW. You had a great Darth Vader commercial last year but you need to quit referring back to it. Come back from the Bark Side.

Chevy Happy Grad | Chevy Super Bowl XLVI Ads | Chevrolet Commercial

HILARIOUS!!! Best of the Super Bowl commercials I've seen so far. Mistaken gift identity. See for yourself. And I am sure you will watch this over and over and over again.

Go Daddy Girls Paint Hot Model in Super Bowl Ad (2012)

YAWN! Just not that FUnnie. Even with body painting on a nekkid chick, this commercial seems lame. And it seems even lamer when you watch it right after the TERRIFIC Chevy Happy Grad commercial above.

Kia Hamsters Super Bowl Commercial

Will these Hip Hop Hamsters turn into gerbils next year?

Flash Fans: 2012 Budweiser Official Big Game Commercial

I gotta give Budweiser a big thumbs up here for creativity. Two recreational hockey teams in Canada were told they were being taped for a documentary. As Budweiser stated: "We lied." Watch the reaction to the stunt by the team members. I checked and this is legit. They truly were surprised.

TOPICS: TV/Movies
KEYWORDS: commercials; superbowl
IMHO the WINNER in terms of creativity and humor for the BEST Super Bowl 2012 commercial is the Chevy Happy Grad Commercial.

“shoving a kitten into an oven is NOT FUnnie”

No, but with a nice marinade and some scalions it could be tasty.

You should probably mention that Madonna has promised to “gay up” the half time show.

Either she is planning to push homo-ality on the kid viewers or she’s inviting the Geico Cave Men.

More Go Daddy Porn, I am only surprised they are using adult models.

Im guessing the banned commercial is for condoms. Don’t get me wrong, its sick. But I kind of like it. I can think of many instances where I wish the parents of crazies would have used them. Sandusky for starters.

Love the hockey commercial, what a great idea. Memory of a lifetime for those guys that’s totally awesome. YouTube comments hilarious (”great commercial, lousy beer”).

That Bud hockey commercial is great. Kinda Field of Dreams like--for a regular schlub to have his one shining moment on the field of play.

I got to do a fantasy camp for the Brewers and play at Miller Park. To step up to home plate, know all the greats that have walked up to that plate, and stroke a single to the outfield was just the greatest feeling. Then to play 1st base, and know that Prince, and Pujols, among the others all stood there doing the same thing, was just the neatest thing.

I didn't have a crowd cheering for me, but for these hockey guys, they got to have a crowd, and all the trappings of a big time game, that had to be pretty special.

Actually, I sort of liked the vampire commercial. I guess with so many vampire shows/movies, it made me laugh. The banned commercial is so wrong on SO many levels. No, microwaving a kitty is NOT funny. Neither is a woman dying giving birth, kids getting killed in a car accident, or people getting killed in a bank robbery. That commercial to me was way beyond good taste. Thanks for posting!

I’m sorry, Peej, but I think they all sucked. Especially the Chevy one with the taxi-cab colored underpowered mommy-car. I now have no reason to watch Sunday....

Audi vampire commercial was stupid. I am SO sick of the vampire fad currently infecting Hollyweird.

The Chevy Happy Grad Commercial is hilarious. Doritos dog ad was cute, as was the kid in the swimming pool.

The singing Hyundai ad (guy in cubicle) was OK... must have cost a bundle as it ran near the beginning of the game.

The “Mr. Quigley” (dog) Sketchers ad was funny until that lib idiot Mark Cuban showed up at the end. Ugh!
