Hi all..was away for a few days...just watched both nights, and skimmed the thread....gotta offer my thoughts..

1. Modestly, may I remind you all that over 5 weeks ago, to considerable dersion, and a few snarky comments, I said flat out that P2 was gonna win..not based necessarily on talent, but by the fact that those who vote, over and over, the teen girls, tween girls, and their moms...well, P2 was the only suitable object for their affections..

2. Really liked the duet with P2 and Fogarty.

3. Still can't get over the camel-toe on Chaka Khan.. that should NOT have been allowed to occur.

4. Just read that the ratings for the finale were waaaay DOWN...AI may be in trouble... they should consider making Silent_jonny the executive producer...

5. Neil Diamond can't sing anymore..his voice is gone..he was speaking the words most of the time...and when he sang, he had NO power left in his voice. Shame..I'm going to see him next Sunday in Tampa..( I'll send you all a review)I caught him here two years ago...it was an awesome show..but his voice is all but gone now..

6. Skylar wore somethng that makes her ass look even bigger..gawd...whatever happened to Tommy Hilfiger..the girl really needed fashion advice..but Reba was superb..

... Can't believe we didn't hit 10,000 posts.

As I was skimming the thread, I realized that CHUNGA had been absent for both nights..YAAAAY!!!!!..until I saw that he got in just before this post..drats...

Silent_jonny...as always...it's been a joy..you provide us with a respite, a refuge from worrying about our country, and what that POS Obama is doing to it...many thanks...

Maybe by next season, they'll fix the darn servers on FR..

I'm gonna tape Duets...give it one chance...if anyone's doing a thread, or sees one, kindly ping me...

Everyone..y'all have a great Memorial Day weekend...have fun, stay safe..nobody drink and drive..

Hey Jonny thanks for everything. We really enjoy you and everyone on the thread every year. Lil and I were not on much this year because she is away for six weeks and I’ve been recording it so we can watch together when she gets back. God bless!

Ace Young: How I Planned a Live TV Wedding Proposal
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20598119,00.html

It was the engagement seen ‘round the world Wednesday night on American Idol, so how did Ace Young manage to pull off his surprise proposal to fiancée Diana DeGarmo?

With a little help from his Idol family, it turns out.

“I called [producer] Nigel [Lythgoe] directly last week and said, ‘I want to do this. I’m going to do this. Is there any way I could do it at the show?’ “ Young, 31, told PEOPLE at the Ford-sponsored American Idol season 11 finale post party. “He said ‘Yes, I’m not going to tell anybody until the day of ... [and] I want you to figure it out with Ryan [Seacrest].”

PHOTO: See Diana DeGarmo’s Engagement Ring!

But DeGarmo, 24, who was “completely caught off guard,” almost thwarted Young’s big plan at the last minute.

“I actually almost got up to go to the bathroom to fix my hair,” she said, laughing. “And then I just started shaking [on stage].”

As his fiancée showed off her new sparkler at the party, Young explained what went into the making of the ring.

“A month ago, she said, ‘Gold needs to come back,’” the season 5 finalist said. “I was like, I agree, so mental note. Her favorite thing is a sunflower and she loves yellow, so one of our dear friends [helped me] put together a ring that has a yellow diamond, a gold band and two smaller diamonds on the side that are clear, so it’s like a sunflower.”

And though the newly engaged couple – who recorded a duet on DeGarmo’s recently released EP Live To Love – have yet to start planning for the big day, one thing’s for certain – there will be “plenty of music” at their wedding.

Looks like the ring was especially made for Ace to give to Diana and this is probably why he mentioned the Jeweler as a special thanks to them. Diana didn’t know though, so while Ace knew what he was going to do, it was only staged in the sense that the show needed to set aside time for it.

Phillip Phillips Had Eight Operations During American Idol Run, His Father Says

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20598145,00.html

Imagine what Phillip Phillips could do if he were 100 percent healthy.

The American Idol winner dazzled viewers all season long, despite battling chronic kidney problems – and having eight separate surgeries – since the competition began, his father told PEOPLE Wednesday after an eventful finale.

“He’s been doing [well], but it’s just grueling hours and it’s just amazing what he’s done through the journey,” said the singer’s dad, also named Phillip Phillips, at the show’s official Ford-sponsored after party. “Eight operations since we started American Idol ... He’s hitting 50 percent, but he’s still up there swinging away.”

Adding, “I was so proud I could cry” over his son’s win, the elder Phillips also said, “They’ve just seen a glimpse of what Phillip can do. We can’t wait to get him well and 100 percent and really see how he can perform.”

The younger Phillips, 21, suffered with a build up of kidney stones and underwent multiple operations to remove them. In the next few weeks, after another surgery to reconstruct his kidneys, he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the Idols Live tour.

“The recovery’s probably two to four weeks,” said his father. “He’s healthy, he’s good. His kidneys are good. I can’t wait for America and the whole world to see him [after his surgery], because he’s a big cut-up. He’s going to have some fun.”

The singer himself told reporters Wednesday that the problems were a struggle but that he had the support to get through them.

“I’m going to get some surgery done, so I’m going to get all better for the tour,” he said. “It was very tough [getting through the season]. I had great doctors and great people surrounding me [who] really helped out, so it’s just a blessing to be here.”

I remember when you thanked silent_jonny for hosting this thread many months ago, after you favored him with a story about meeting Josh Steely from the band Daughtry at one of your gigs, and provided some inside scoop about what a great person Chris Daughtry is, straight from the mouth of one of his bandmates, since he has so many fans on the thread.

I realize that you never received as much as a single "you're welcome" from the thread host, yet you stayed around week after week and provided your musical wisdom and sage predictions regarding the season's outcome...and of course you were borne out. I am grateful that you decided to hang in there in spite of the rudeness you were shown.

I sure hope you'll come back for the American Idol 2013--Live Thread.

And thanks for not reading this!

Thanks! I might come back.

In spite of everything you said, I'll take the high road here and once again thank the thread host for hosting the thread.

Thanks for hosting the thread this year silent_jonny! You do a great job!

You are so funny. I am just now going through the thread. I will miss you. I can’t do the levin thread because it’s at the same time as I am in the car. :( I do listen to him at times though. Agree with him always but sometimes can’t stand his way / ranting. Wish he had a better sense of humor.)

Scotty was awesome. Still is. He was the perfect idol winner, and I am not really a country fan.

My AI triva for the night.
I was wondering why Kelly Clarkson was playing such a big role as a mentor on The Voice since she has a new show on ABC

It turns out she is dating Reba McIntires stepson - who Blake Shelton’s manager.

I think the dad is involved some kind of way with Kelly Clarkson..maybe manager.

What could possibly go wrong there...

Holy Incest, Batman!

I was an occasional lurker here too, thanks so much for this thread. I had lost interest in AI the past few years. Picked out P2 at the auditions and stayed for the ride. So happy he won. The finale was the most touching thing I ever saw—on Idol or any other tv show. I was crying along with him. His song “Home” is the #1 download on Itunes and he has a total of 10 songs in the top 100. Hope he gets well and goes on to a great career. BTW, I was scanning the thread and lmao at post #9561. I’ll never forget Simon’s reaction to that Fantasia performance. Thanks for the laugh!

Holy Mother of Chicken McNuggets! Mantasia is singin with Fantasia?????? GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!

Oh dear LORD—WHAT IS SHE WEARING???

Ha ha ha ha. When I watch the show, many hours or even a day after you guys get to watch all together, I IMAGINE what’s being said on the thread. And I imagined you all going nuts with the Double Scream Duet, and of course the “outfit” with the sides ripped open for better hamhock viewing!!
