I apologize I'm late posting the thread. My internet connection has been down since yesterday. (It's my ISP's problem not mine. Customer Service assures me that they are working on it.) Anyway, I'm posting the thread now as best I can through someone else's computer. I don't have access to the ping list or to the HTML code I've saved, so I can't post the quotes and prizes like usual.

Hopefully the problem will be fixed soon, but probably not by tonight. Enjoy the show without me.

Jonny

4 questions as 'American Idol' returns

1. Music, music everywhere . . . maybe too much music (music) everywhere?

Forget the "The X Factor," which wrapped just weeks ago. NBC's "The Voice" bows Feb. 5, after the Super Bowl, then airs for two hours every Monday night. How much voting can anyone stand in a single week (not to mention "Dancing With the Stars," returning March 13)? There's always the possibility that people will get fatigued with "Voice" first, but Ken Warwick, "Idol's" executive producer, conceded in a recent phone interview: "Viewer overload or fatigue is always a problem, and I sincerely hope it doesn't affect us, but I can't guarantee it won't."

2. Aren't we all just a little fatigued with "Idol," anyway?

Tell that to Nielsen, which recorded 29 million viewers for last year's 10th-season finale. In fact, the 10th reversed five seasons of steady viewer erosion. But people -- and by people I mean "critics" -- like to observe that "Idol" hasn't discovered a bona fide superstar since season four's Carrie Underwood. Yet 10th-season champ Scotty McCreery's first album just went platinum. Scotty may not be huge in this neck of the woods, but he apparently is in points south and west. But "Idol" is, in fact, "aging up" -- median viewer age last season was 47.4, which means kids aren't really watching much anymore. That is a big concern.

3. What other challenge does "Idol" face this season?

An unexpected one, or, as Warwick puts it, "All of these big singing stars suddenly won't give us clearance to play their records." This, of course, is another "Voice" reverb effect: Kelly Clarkson has joined as an on-air adviser, as have Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Jewel, Miranda Lambert, Alanis Morissette, Ne-Yo, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke. You won't be hearing their songs on "Idol."

4. What's new this season?

In a sign of confidence, perhaps, no major changes are contemplated, according to Warwick. (The 10th season had more than enough of those, anyway.) Tomorrow night's auditions begin in Savannah, Ga., which issued more yellow tickets to the Hollywood round than any other city this season. Plus, Warwick makes this prediction: "I would say it's a girls' year. The truth is, you need to get to the final 12, or six, before someone is really outstanding, but my feeling is, it's the girls."

Some updates

American Idol’s season ten winner, Scotty McCreery has just got a taste of what success feels like when his debut album, Clear As Day was certified platinum recently. Clear As Day has sold over one million copies, in just three months since it’s release, which also makes Scotty’s debut album one of the biggest selling American Idol debut albums. What does Scotty McCreery have to say about this? Scotty is elated, as he said: “It means the world to me. It’s one of the highest honors you can get with your album and it’s a huge testament to the loyalty of country music fans and how great they have been to me this year. 2011 was absolutely an incredible, life-changing year for me. I want to say a huge thanks to the fans for this.”

But that is not the only honor for Scotty McCreery – Clear As Day also raked in the highest sales of any country solo album released last year, and taking the number one spot with his debut, Scotty became the youngest male in history to open at the top of the Billboard 200 chart with a debut release. Scotty McCreery went on to gush: “Never in a million years did I dream that the album would go platinum. It’s wild! It’s going to take me a few months or years to really wrap my head around it.”

I’m voting for Carly Smithson.
Check out her Shadow of your Smile on youtube.com
from the 2008 season. My personal favorite, but everything
she did was perfection.

James Durbin Ties the Knot on New Year’s Eve

James Durbin sure knows how to kick off a new year.

The rocker and American Idol alum wed longtime love Heidi Lowe on New Year’s Eve, Durbin’s rep confirms. The couple made it official in front of 85 guests – including their 2-year-old son, Hunter, who served as ring bearer – in a chapel at the edge of a redwood forest in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Hi! Long time no chat! :)

A few more updates

‘American Idol’ alum Stefano Langone signed to Hollywood Records

Earlier this week, sixth-place finisher Casey Abrams nabbed a deal with Concord Records, becoming the sixth Season 10 alum to score a recording contract. And now, just a few days later, seventh-place finisher Stefano Langone has become the seventh Season 10 alum to get signed. Not too shabby!

In other Idol News

Ace Young & Diana DeGarmo Are in Love and Living Together

Nearly two years after falling in love, American Idol alumni Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo are opening up about their relationship.

Season 5 heartthrob Young, 31, and season 3’s runner-up DeGarmo, 24, met in the spring of 2010 when both signed on to costar in the Broadway revival of the musical Hair.

“We became best friends through Hair, ironically not through Idol,” says DeGarmo, who now plays as a New Jersey Mob boss’s daughter on the CBS soap The Young and the Restless. “It just blossomed into a beautiful relationship.”

The attraction was immediate for Young, who, along with DeGarmo, had to get naked onstage for each performance of Hair. “She said, ‘You’re not looking, right?’ “ Young says of the first time they disrobed in rehearsals. “And I was like, ‘Oh no, not at all.’ But I was looking, and I was like – sold!”

But Young had his eye on DeGarmo before that moment. “I was already interested in her as a person before I got to see her with no clothes on,” he said. “But [that] sealed the deal.”

After the musical closed in June 2010, Young, 31, returned to L.A. while DeGarmo, 24, went on tour with the musical 9 to 5. The time apart was difficult, Young says: “If you love somebody, whenever they’re not around, it sucks.”

So when DeGarmo’s tour ended last summer, Young found a way to keep her close.

“She came to California and kept saying, ‘I’m looking [at] apartments,’ “ he recalls. “And I was like, ‘Why don’t you just stay with me?’ The moment she got here, she realized I wasn’t going to let her get an apartment. It was like, either we’re doing this or we’re not. And, thankfully, she was all in.”

Adds DeGarmo: “I crashed on the couch – more like, I crashed in his bed – and just didn’t leave.”

These days, the couple’s not only living under the same roof but working together. They recently formed a music group with two friends called All Access, and Young, who earned a Grammy nomination for co-writing Idol pal Chris Daughtry’s hit “It’s Not Over,” is also producing country songs for DeGarmo.

“She’s my best friend,” he says. “To be able to dive in with Diana and help create songs that [tell] her story is amazing.”
