DRESDEN, Germany The Womens World Cup quarterfinal between the United States and Brazil on Sunday took enough twists and turns to fill an entire tournament. If an early own goal, a controversial ejection and a retaken penalty kick werent enough, there was a go-ahead strike in extra time by Marta, the Brazilian superstar, and a last-ditch equalizer by Abby Wambach, the Americans bruising forward.
One last act of spellbinding theater awaited and Hope Solo and Ali Krieger embraced the spotlight at Rudolf-Harbig Stadium.

Best violation of the flag code ever!

They seem to have forgotten Martas last name. It's a Brazilian thing -- most, if not all, of their players (men and women) go by a given name only.

FWIW, “Hope Solo” is the best name a soccer goalie ever had.

The look of utter disbelief on the faces of the Brazillian players after their loss,
Priceless.

Why would you libel a great athlete like Solo with that lie?

She did NOT deserve it, she did NOT gab her “crotch”, and Lambert pulled that shite the entire game. Jeeze Louise.

I actually watched the third place game and then the finals of the U17 (men) World Cup. Much higher level of soccer from 4 teams (Brazil/Germany, Uruguay/Mexico) that would beat any of the women's teams in Germany.
And, just to clarify, yes the last minute goal to tie the game was a "stunner", but not the US beating the Brazilian WOMEN. If anything the teams are evenly matched. I'm sure the US Women have an all-time winning record against the Brazilians. So please don't fall for the hype, much like in '99. Most other countries still look at women's soccer the way we look at women playing (gridiron) football - not a lot of interest really. Whereas, via Title IX, women's soccer is kinda subsidized here, hence, we're a one of the top teams.

I guaran damn tee you I could. For example, most of the women's goals (like the tying goal scored against Brazil) are from blatant goalkeeper errors! Or the fact that the goalkeepers are just too short for the 8 foot goal.
Just so we know where each of us are coming from, you do realize that the women's teams would (and do) get their asses kicked by any decent U19 male team, right?

Or as H. Ross Johnson would have said, "it's a blinding glimpse of the obvious!"

Errors?
LoL!
Plenty of those in men's soccer.
You and your U19 sound jealous of press coverage the women are getting. Put some ice on it.

I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions. My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary from the coaching staff and UNM administration
