We were in Titusville by 5 AM, the place was already swamped and people still coming in. By 7AM we were out on a bridge over the Indian river. People were still coming in a steady stream right up to launch. I was all set up but at the end of the countdown a mob started pushing for a better view., I lost some shots because people bumped me just as I shot. The haze was thick as smoke and the clouds were so low the shuttle was hidden almost as soon as it started. I don't have any idea what the bomb squad was doing there but I did see some people wearing tee shirts from a muslim student group.

Freaking awesome, SN!
Thanks. Only pictures I will probably get to see.
Interesting about FL, you have to top a bridge to see anything.
You are a doll for posting the pictures and sharing your experience with the last shuttle.
We saw a glimpse before it hit the clouds in Daytona, Great photos, thanks for posting.
R.I.P. NASA. Another job completed by our Marxist president.
Excellent pics!
I saw a rare night launch of the Endeavor a few years back, from not quite as good a vantage point, but still a clear view. Awesome!
So how many people were there?
Great shots Swampsniper..as always. So glad I got to watch it, though not in person.
Thanks for the great pictures.
I heard it estimated at a million and a half, the bridge was solid with people.
Thanks for posting, Swampsniper.
The end of an era ...
Thank you. These pictures are great!
Great stuff!
I was in FL on vacation in 1981 at the time of the very first Shuttle launch, and we parked along the beach the Friday of the scheduled event. Unfortunately, it got scrubbed for a few days, and I had to get back to work that weekend since my job was still fairly new. I never did get down that way for future launches, and will always regret not risking staying there to witness history.
Great Pictures! Do you know we held briefly at T-31 seconds?? I would be interested to hear what was broadcast as what happened. I was in the firing room so we never hear what the media put our there.

Wow, you are so very fortunate to have been able to be there.
Thank you for the pic’s.
Obama kills our country, one dream at a time.....damn him to hell.
What was his reason for doing it?
When the bomb squad showed up there were a lot of nervous people.
Thanks so much for posting!
